Wholly Guacamole comes out with 100 calorie packs
Diet & Weight Loss, Nutrition & Supplements
I hope this news makes you as happy as it just made me. Wholly Guacamole, my very favorite pre-made guacamole, has come out with 100 Calorie Snack Pack. Wholly Guacamole is made of avocados, spices, and not a lot else. It is "Fresherized," meaning that they use pressure to preserve the product, not chemicals. In the regular size, they offer Classic, Spicy, Pico Style, Guaca Salsa, and Organic. So far, the 100 calorie packs are just available in the Classic flavor, but hey, I have no complaints.
Why am I so excited about this new option? Avocados have all kinds of health benefits (and a guac like this is a good source of avocado), but they are a bit higher in calories and fat then most fruits and veggies. I know perfectly well how much guacamole I should put on my plate. However, when that bowl is in front of me, it's really, really hard to take just what I should have and walk away. Having only 100 calories in the packs (and they come in packs of three or six) is just what I need to help me with my guacamole portion control.

The rage in "healthy" snacking these days are the 100-calorie snack packs. Cupcakes, cookies, crackers you name it ... they come in what savvy food manufactures are calling fit or healthy sizes. The problem is, as a Brown University study shows, they won't stop you from overeating.
Researchers discovered that people ate the same amount of cookies or crackers, regardless of the size of the bag that they came in. Basically, people tend to throw back two, three, four, or even five of the 100-calorie packs, which of course is no different than eating several servings from a large, multi-serving pack.
The researchers also found that the biggest influence on what people ate was evidently based on what foods (and in what amount) they kept in their house. WebMD lists several 100-calorie snacks that are far healthier than any amount of cupcakes or cookies could ever be. Check out the list HERE.
Six diets to avoid
- Diets that promise rapid weight-loss in a short amount of time -- if it works out to more than two pounds a week, you might be putting your health at risk
- Diets that use pills, supplements, creams, etc. and promise results without exercise or diet changes -- Repeat after me. There. is. no. magic. pill. It takes hard work and anyone who tells you differently is lying.
- Diets that are really different from how you eat now -- You'll have trouble sticking to it if it's too far from your comfort zone
- Diets that have you eating less than 1,000 calories a day -- You'll be weak, tired and cranky. It's not worth it.
- Diets that claim to be easy and effortless -- see #2
- Diets that cut out whole food groups -- you won't stick to it, especially long-term.

Here's another tip from the article -- cut your foods into appropriate sizes before serving. A family style meal is great, but be sure that you know what an appropriate serving is before sitting down. Otherwise, you're likely to fill up your plate with twice or three times the amount of food you need. Not sure what an appropriate serving looks like? Here's a handy visual reference guide.
Cutting just 200-500 calories per day could help you lose up to 50 pounds in the next year. Instead of putting yourself on a "diet," why not just find corners you can cut to eliminate 100 calories here and there. You might be surprised how easy it is and how quickly the pounds start melting off.
