Jon Gosselin Hits the Yoga Mat
Jon Gosselin, the embattled father of eight, who is most often seen hanging with girlfriend Hailey Glassman, wearing Ed Hardy t-shirts and smoking, has been on a spiritual quest as of late. And it looks like yoga is the lastest stop on his path to inner peace. In the video above, from Us Weekly, you can see the 32-year-old reality star trying his hand at a few basic poses.
Michelle Demus, Programming Director at Manhattan's Pure Yoga, looked at the snapshots of Gosselin and told the magazine that his body seems "closed off" and "holds a lot of tension."
Gosselin admitted last month that "I have allowed myself to become somewhat severed from my own moral anchor and be carried away by the challenges of fame." He added that he yearned to "reconnect with my deeper, more spiritual, more altruistic self."
What do you think? Could yoga really help Jon Gosselin ditch his bad-dad ways, or is this just another publicity stunt?
World Run Day 2009 is This Sunday!
Photo: Ed Yourdon, Flickr
World Run Day was conceptualized in 1999 by veteran runner Bill McDermott, who told Active.com, "The idea was an international day of charity, built around running. I thought if we could just focus on one day, wouldn't that be great for all of us?" The first actual World Run Day was the following year, and after September 11, 2001, McDermott refocused his energy into the holiday to make it something people all over the world could take part in.
The idea of World Run Day is that, rather than having to run in a specific organized event to raise money for a cause, people can raise money and just go out for a run on their own. If you'd like to participate in a group event, Active.com has a list of World Run Day events near you.
A day just for running and helping charity that doesn't romanticize a marathon? Nobody can object to that!

When it comes to the dryer, Sedu is tough to beat. Sarah James of Hair Thursday says, "I love my Sedu 4000i Hair Dryer. It cuts drying time in half, and actually isn't that big, given how powerful it is. Total lifesaver when you're in a time crunch!"
Competitive Eater Crazy Legs Conti's Diet and Fitness Routine

Photo: Buck Wolf, AOL News
To get inside the world of competitive eating, we consulted competitive eater Crazy Legs Conti, ranked 15 in the world and most recently the cannoli eating champion. People assume competitive eaters must be 400-pound individuals who gorge themselves at all-you-can-eat buffets, and nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, Crazy Legs is 6'3'' and weighs 215 pounds.
You also might be surprised to know that he's a dedicated runner and does yoga two to three times a week. "Throughout the year I eat competitively 40 to 45 times," he says. "So I'm watching every bite, chew and swallow to be able to go the table and perform to the best of my ability. It's like preparing for a marathon, but it's a marathon of eating." With about 80 competitive-eating events a year, thousands of dollars of prize money on the line and tons of buzz surrounding these events we definitely wanted to hear more from this eating expert about how he stays fit, while eating so much.
Crazy Legs: The first thing I do is running. I jog the Williamsburg Bridge [between Brooklyn and Manhattan, in New York] three or four times a week. I travel to so many cities, so I always bring my running shoes. I'm from
Street Strider:The Biggest Loser's Next Great Workout?

Fans of The Biggest Loser may have noticed an exotic addition to the show recently: The 2010 StreetStrider.
Like a cross between an elongated tricycle, a Razor scooter and a gym elliptical trainer, the StreetStider consists of a light frame with two small wheels in front and one large wheel in back. Riders stand on the ski-like platforms and stride their legs in a stretched out oval motion. The movement is part jogging, part cycling -- and part something completely new for an outdoor exercise machine.
If the Biggest Loser contestants are any indication, StreetStriding will be the next big fitness craze. They tested the machine behind the scenes for over two seasons, zipping around obstacle courses and pumping up hills. Although contestants had usually lost a good deal of weight before climbing aboard, most of them were still on the heftier side so Dave Kraus, the inventor and president of StreetStrider International, thinks their feedback was especially useful in helping in working out the kinks and perfecting the motion for the average person.
"We're really hoping to re-energize people of all shapes and sizes by providing them with a cutting edge product that's safe, rigorous and low impact," he says.

Beer Calories Sink To a New Low
Photo: Getty
So is it a good idea? Beer manufacturers seem to think so, so when you consider that Miller Genuine Draft 64 sold twice as much in a year as its predecessor, Miller Genuine Draft Light, it seems they're onto something. And for those looking to have one or two brews and still stick to their diet, this ultra-low beer seems like the perfect solution-- if they can handle the watered-down taste. However, those who are drinking to get drunk will likely end up drinking more bottles -- the only thing that will shrink in size is their wallet.

Getting Fit for Adventure Travel
Photo: mckaysavage, Flickr
Got an adventure trip on the calendar? Maybe you're kayaking the Sea of Cortez, hiking Machu Picchu or climbing Mount Rainier. Granted, you might already be in shape, but taking an adventure trip is akin to doing a marathon: You've got to fine tune your body for the demands of that particular excursion. But how?
You've got a few options. You could wing it, of course, and keep up your regular fitness program (you do have one, right?). You could hire a personal trainer. Or you could a customized fitness plan from Fit for Trips.
Fit for Trips was created by an adventure traveler and personal trainer, Marcus Shapiro, to help people get fit for adventure travels. Shapiro and his team of expert trainers (and they do have great qualifications, by the way) partner with adventure tour operators to create fitness programs for specific itineraries. They also design customized fitness programs for individuals and offer support via e-mail or phone.
Hula-Hooping To Lose Weight
Photo: Corbis
You can tone your tummy with a Hoopilates class or pick up a hooping DVD that will show you the ins and outs of getting fit with the hula hoop. Make sure you're using a weighted one for an extra challenge, and check out these easy moves that can get you started. Keep in mind that you don't always have to use your hula hoop in the traditional manner -- it can be used to tone all your muscles, not just the abs.
So it's no wonder Hula Hooping is catching on all over the place -- even Michelle Obama is doing it!
