Actually yes, they certainly can. Assuming the calories are extra (i.e. more than your body needs), fat calories will add more pounds than carb calories because they're easier for your body to convert into fat. Your body only burns about 3% of fat calories for them to be stored as fat, but it takes 23% of carb calories to be converted and stored.
