How did your friends and family react to the change?

Rory: My parents got right on board. They're in their 60s and they're vegan, too. They're animal lovers and didn't want to be a part of something so cruel. They're also very concerned about their health, and when they learned the health benefits of a vegetarian diet, it was something they really wanted to be involved in.

Kim: I got my son and my husband involved, but it's taken my parents some time to get on board. We're still working on my mom a little. But, they've made definite changes. In our household, it's vegan eating, so that's what my son and my husband eat and they're into it as well. My husband was a French chef, so this way of cooking was very new to him. But, when he got to America and saw they way we ate and learned about the factory farming as well, he embraced it.

Rory: It's funny, but Kim is actually the cook in the house.

Kim: He's taught me a lot, but I'm teaching him, too, and I really enjoy cooking. One way to get the family on board ... Don't give them the choice. Tell them you're making dinner and don't make a big deal about what you're making. Just cook. Once they taste what you've made, they'll enjoy the food and get on board. And now, there are a lot vegan of cookbooks out there - no excuses!
