No plans for Valentine's Day? Now you have one: Punch your ex. Well, kind of. Take out your relationship frustration, aggression and the rest of your pent-up emotions on other embittered boxers in Crunch Gym's Ex-Factor class. Sure, boxing is a huge stress reliever (and calorie-torcher), but Crunch takes it one delightful step further by inviting you to bring a picture of your ex to tape to a focus mitt so you can finally give him the proper knockout you've always fantasized about. Crunch gyms in New York, Los Angeles, Atlanta, San Francisco, Chicago and Miami are offering this free class to both members and non-members. Ryan Reynolds has been an observer of the New York City Marathon in past years, and says he was amazed by the "guys coming in to finish with bleeding nipples ... People were crying. People were limping, hobbling, screaming, crawling. But most importantly, people were experiencing a sublime rapture that I couldn't even hope to understand."

Add to that statement the fact that Reynolds, who has described his early morning runs as "nothing short of horrifying," has chosen to run the marathon after speaking with Michael J. Fox in an effort to raise money for Parkinson's Disease, which his father has battled for the last 15 years, and whoa -- he's starting to sound awfully serious. Did his recent marriage to Scarlett Johansson rid him of his funny bone? Nope, not at all. The funnyman wrote the following:

Gallery: <a href="http://".$GLOBALS["HTTP_HOST"]."/photos/other-celebs-whove-done-26-2-and-their-times/">Other Celebs Who've Done 26.2 (and their times!)
<a href="http://".$GLOBALS["HTTP_HOST"]."/photos/other-celebs-whove-done-26-2-and-their-times/1089604/"><a href="http://".$GLOBALS["HTTP_HOST"]."/photos/other-celebs-whove-done-26-2-and-their-times/1089606/"><a href="http://".$GLOBALS["HTTP_HOST"]."/photos/other-celebs-whove-done-26-2-and-their-times/1089603/"><a href="http://".$GLOBALS["HTTP_HOST"]."/photos/other-celebs-whove-done-26-2-and-their-times/1089607/"><a href="http://".$GLOBALS["HTTP_HOST"]."/photos/other-celebs-whove-done-26-2-and-their-times/1089605/">

"Not since the discovery of Junior High School has a torture been so effective. Kristen tells us that today is Love Your Body Day. And Fitz tells us she loves her abs -- rightfully so. Let's just say I'm a tad bit jealous (OK, a lot jealous), and I'm pretty convinced when I gawk at the girl's midsection that a lot of hard work really does pay off. As for the rest of us here at That's Fit, well, we love our bodies too.

Laura is so happy that the round, ample, apple-shaped derriere is in style, because it makes her love hers even more. A major plus of having an ample "A," says Laura, is that she automatically has a bit more padding and sitting is more comfortable on hard surfaces. Also, her strong buttocks can get her places faster if she uses them in just the right way. Yes, Laura loves her butt. After all, it's kind of grown on her.

Maggie loves her calf muscles, even wrote a love letter to her prized body part. Her calves are strong, allow her kick countless soccer balls, and never complain when she doesn't give them the exercise they crave.

Me? I love my calves too, and I also wrote a love letter to my body, thanking it for delivering me two whopper baby boys and for kicking cancer's butt.

Bev loves her quads because they're her most low-maintenance, major muscle group and because they're rarely sore, they're sporty shapely, and they're always flexible (unlike her cranky hamstrings). They've never suffered a major injury either, and the lovely things allow her to hike, climb, bike, and walk.

Do you love your body? Tell us about it.

Permalink | Email this | Comments

Happy Love Your Body Day!

Filed under: Healthy Events, Fitness, Motivation
Whether hitting the gym every day or once in a blue moon, there's one thing we all need to do -- love our bodies! You don't have to be completely content with the size of your waist, and maybe you wish your arms were a little more toned, but today, for Love Your Body Day, I want you to take a minute and appreciate what your body does for you.

Your legs and feet take you where you need to go. Do they run? Do they walk well in heels? Can they kick a soccer ball? Your arms lift all kinds of important things -- food and drink to nourish your body, books so you can read, and your children when they need to be held. And, don't forget -- your arms can give great hugs!

To celebrate Love Your Body Day, I have a couple of suggestions. First, do something good for your body -- take a long walk, do some strength training, complete 20 push-ups, whatever works for you. And second, keep reading here at That's Fit, because we'll be telling you all day long what we love about our bodies because we want to inspire you!

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Ask Fitz!
Q. Hi Fitz, I'm 26 years old and have never been happy with my upper body. My arms are lanky and my chest is soft. I have a demanding job as an attorney, and simply don't have the time nor the know how to get involved in a complicated training regiment. I know I have to "earn" a good body, so I was hoping you could dumb things down for me. A simple routine I can do in a hurry. P.S. I love your fit tip videos! Thanks. Tim

A. Hello Mr. Tim! Training for a guy with "no time" huh? That' my specialty! Glad you asked. Look pal, I wish I could pull off the persona as a rocket scientist, because I'm on top of this stuff ... but I can't. Fitness is painfully simple, and you can achieve your goals without much complexity.

Continue reading Ask Fitz! You can join walks to support conditions and issues from diabetes to breast cancer to asthma to world hunger to almost anything else you can think of. Walks for a cause are a total win-win situation. You benefit your health with the activity while you're helping a good cause. But the Walk a Mile in Her Shoes cause ... well, it's unique.

The walk has a definite sense of humor. Men are asked to literally walk a mile in her shoes ... her high heels to be exact. But underneath the sense of humor is a serious issue. The walks are designed to draw attention to rape, assault, and other forms of sexualized violence against women.

This month, there are walks scheduled in Indiana, Kentucky, South Dakota, Ontario, Minnesota, Vermont, Iowa, Idaho, Michigan, and Georgia. If there isn't a walk scheduled near you, you can register to organize a walk.

Gallery: <a href="http://".$GLOBALS["HTTP_HOST"]."/photos/walk-a-mile-in-her-shoes/">Walk a Mile in Her Shoes
<a href="http://".$GLOBALS["HTTP_HOST"]."/photos/walk-a-mile-in-her-shoes/1011812/"><a href="http://".$GLOBALS["HTTP_HOST"]."/photos/walk-a-mile-in-her-shoes/1011811/"><a href="http://".$GLOBALS["HTTP_HOST"]."/photos/walk-a-mile-in-her-shoes/1011810/"><a href="http://".$GLOBALS["HTTP_HOST"]."/photos/walk-a-mile-in-her-shoes/1011809/"><a href="http://".$GLOBALS["HTTP_HOST"]."/photos/walk-a-mile-in-her-shoes/1011808/">

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Duathlon - Something different to tri

Well, the triathlon season is certainly not over, but my prospects for completing a tri this summer are not good -- I injured my shoulder and haven't been able to swim. However, a duathlon is taking place right here in my home town, so what's to stop me?

A duathlon consists of running and biking and running again. The one I'm considering consists of a two-mile run, a 10-mile bike, followed by one more two-mile run. What's great about this is that, like a sprint triathlon, I can complete each of these legs on their own with ease, but when it's all put together, it becomes a fun challenge.

I've said it before and I'll say it again -- races like these are great ways to get yourself motivated to train. Even if you don't have an event near you, set a date, maybe with some friends, to complete two or three events. You can do this at your gym, from your home, or at a nearby park. It's up to you!

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Ask Fitz!
Q. Hey Fitz, My name is Sarah and I'm almost 16. I have always been involved with sports including: hockey, basketball, soccer and you name it! Now that I am older, I have slowed down a bit and only play basketball for high school and travel. This is what is bothering me: I can't seem to run as long as I used to. I get tired easily and run out of breath. I'm not fat or anything, and I am even really fast. But by the time I run one length of the court I'm pretty much dead. What am I doing wrong and what do I need to do to change this? It seems like I get more out of breathe each season. Thanks, Sarah

A. Hi Sarah, Thanks for writing. I have two thoughts on what may be happening with you, the first being more probable than the last. Most likely, you've just become out of shape. That doesn't mean you're obese or in horrible shape, it just may mean you're not capable of doing as much as you were two years ago when you were involved in three sports! You take pride in the fact that you run fast. That's great! But, the fact that you like to go all out probably makes you more likely to suck wind at the end of one lap.

More or less, a healthy snack is something that will tide you over until your next meal, keeping you properly satiated until then. It is also something that is relatively low in calories, but still has a good amount of nutritional value.

Rather than continuing to talk about what makes a snack healthy, I'm sure you'd prefer to instead learn about some actual healthy snacks!! Try these on for size (each contains 200 calories or less):

Reduced-fat popcorn and 1/3 cup of dried fruit

1/2 cup of low-fat cottage cheese and 2tbs of low-sugar jelly or jam

Single servings of many different types of fruits

2 graham cracker squares with 2tsp of natural peanut butter and apple slices

Cereal bar and 1 cup of light yogurt

Mozzarella cheese stick, 5 baby carrots and 5 celery sticks with 1/4 cup of fat-free black bean dip

1/2 egg salad sandwich made with 2tsp of light mayo

If your kids are broad-jumping the family room or breast-stroking in their bathtubs, perhaps a more organized kid Olympics is in order.

Parent Center has compiled a list of three kid activities that will help you put together your own Kid Olympics.

Obstacle Course -- Set this one up outdoors for fresh air and exercise. Aside from things to run around and through, add an element of skill with a golf or croquet aiming station.

Balance Beams -- Start your toddlers off with phone book balance beams, then get narrower as your kids get older. Remind them that practice is the key in this event, and teach them balancing tricks, like holding out their arms.

Broad Jump -- All you need are ropes and a motivated kid, and you've got yourself an Olympic sport.

The best part about these Olympic-inspired activities? They get your kids off the couch and moving. Unlike other health and fitness sites, SHE is owned by a fitness expert, Master of Exercise Physiology, Tracy Benham. She has also surrounded herself by other experts (like me) in unique genres of health.

SHE sports a bunch of great text info, and it's full of FITNESS TELEVISION! You don't have to settle for words, when you can see and hear the various experts blabbing about and showing you personally what they want you to know about becoming a better you. General fitness training, yoga, healthy cooking, etc...

So ... I'm stoked! We've done tons of work leading up to this point, and now I can't wait to see how all of that effort pays off for you. Want to know the secrets of the stars? Bi-weekly our That's Fit fitness expert Fitz sits down with the celebs we want to know more about, and digs out their great and not-so-great methods to staying healthy.

If you've been in tune with national sporting news this week, you're probably aware of the big hub-bub created by Mike Nadel, a cranky reporter of the Peoria Journal Star, who wrote a venomous article about the both young and beautiful sideline reporter for ESPN, Erin Andrews. The "big news" and "big deal" was that Erin wore a dress that hit right above her knee (the outrage!), and her dress was not a turtleneck (hussy)! Nadel even noted that Erin went so far as to grope Alfonso Soriano's bicep at a gathering (she was just looking at his scar from a recent surgery).

Here is the truth about Erin. She's a college educated, ambitious, down-to-earth woman who started on a small network and proved her reporting worthy of a high profile on-air position at ESPN. She loves sports and is great at delivering the news we want to know about our favorite athletes, coaches and teams. Erin and I relaxed on a sunny afternoon in both of our alma mater's football stadium, the University of Florida's SWAMP, to chat. She's funny, sarcastic, and truly grateful to have the job she's dreamed of. She often travels with a band of brothers, the mostly male ESPN GameDay crew, and has had to learn the hard way that she really isn't a guy. Some fans with cell phone cameras taught her that.

Fitz: You are pretty great shape! What do you do?

Erin: Traveling for my job makes staying in shape really hard. We're on the road so much, and for me ... it's tough cause I'm one of the only girls on site. I'm really close with the other talent and the broadcasters, so we go out to eat all the time. Today we had hamburgers! Eating on the road is the worst way to eat. Not only that, but I'm surrounded by guys! When you're surrounded by men, you eat and drink like a guy.

Fitz: Not good news for a slender woman like you!

Continue reading Celebrity Fitzness Report: Interview with ESPN's controversial? reporter Erin Andrews

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Ask Fitz!
Q. Hello! I came across your trip reports from your Disney World vacation in June while searching the web for some advice on healthy eating at Disney. Very helpful posts -- thank you! Our family was there last summer and we are going back next week. However, since January I have lost around 55 lbs (with a few more pounds still to go). I wasn't that concerned about eating healthy last summer, but I am worried this summer that I will gain weight during vacation instead of maintaining or losing weight, as I am still trying to do. I know that Disney World is tons of walking (it's me, my husband, and our two boys, ages 7 and 5), but there is no nutrition/calorie information for any of the food from Disney's table or counter-service restaurants. The main way that I have lost weight is by counting calories and exercising. So I feel a little "lost" when it comes to what I will eat on vacation. Also, my husband and kids are fairly picky eaters and so we pretty much only eat at places that offer the standard "hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken nuggets, pizza", etc. Thanks for your trip report -- sounds like you and your family had a wonderful time at Disney World!!! Melody from Delaware

A. Hi Melody. Lucky you! I wish I were going back to Disney next week! Hopefully my answer will prove to be the simple reassurance you need to relax and enjoy the magic of Disney. Sweetie ... you've lost 55 pounds; you already know what you are doing! All I want you to do is to continue pursuing the same fabulous food you choose at home in Delaware. Disney has totally cleaned up its act in the healthy food department. Sometimes I'll bring my dog, and occasionally a friend will join me, but far more often than not, it's just me. And I'm not complaining -- in fact, that's the way I like it.

However, one of the things I love about running is the feeling of community. Any time I go for a run, I know there's someone else out there, someone who's facing the same challenges I am, someone who will push through to the end of that last mile (and if they can do it, so can I). There's so much support for runners, both in local club form and online. And then, of course, there's the feeling of being a part of an actual race.

Nike is capitalizing on that feeling by promoting the Nike+ Human Race. Rather than just running with people who join a race in your area, you have the option to run a 10k on the same day as thousands of other people all across the globe. Races are set for cities around the world, from New York to Madrid to Shanghai, or you can join in on a run by yourself with the Nike+ gear. Of course, you could just go for run on August 31st and know that you're joining runners the world over -- it's up to you!

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Ask Fitz!
Q. Hello Miss Fitzness, I see you have an extensive history as a kickboxer. I also like to kickbox, although I've never actually had a fight. I've since left my trainer though. I have bought a water based heavy bag, and know all of my punches and kicks. It's just hard to come up with things to do each round like my trainer you to have me do. I'm getting bored now without a goal. Have any advice? Scott

A. Hi Scott! Thanks for asking! Yes, my competitive kickboxing days go way back to the mid 1990s and I'm still desperately in love with the sport. It's a ton of fun, and a tremendous workout. Plus ... I personally enjoy kicking people in the head! Only those who have willingly signed up for a charming bit o' competition though, of course! I have also spent the past 15 years as the Fitness Division Director of the International Sport Kickboxing Association. The ISKA is the sanctioning body of the sport, just like the NFL is for pro football. So, yes sir! I can help you with that heavy bag training.

If you're one of those folks who has no interest in indulging in the traditional not-so-good-for-you birthday celebration ... 1-800-FLOWERS has come up with an adorable alternative. They've made beautiful cakes and cocktails out of flowers! The arrangements are beautiful, fun and absolutely guilt free!

Now, I'm not a girl who brings cake into my home or even orders it at a restaurant. I am, however, someone who enjoys a piece on my birthday. If true cake is a special component of your big day, than by all means ... have some! But if it's not, I think these cakes made of flowers make a wonderful celebratory substitute.

The other thing that struck me is that they'd make an incredibly thoughtful gift as well. We've all had the standard bouquet brought to our door, but these little masterpieces are the kind of flowers that would make me squeal! As a fitness trainer, I hold myself to a very high standard. I want to be a role model and I'd never want to contribute in an unhealthy way to a friend. I personally could never just grab a basket of chocolate and give it to someone I love. How contrary that would be!

They/we discussed the benefits that both a healthy lifestyle and positive attitude can have on today's Baby Boomers. I was happy to see two bright women, both 57 years old, who were able to close in on 60 without being or looking "old". While preserving their appearances and health, they still embrace and enjoy the gifts that come with aging.

Both Cheryl and Elizabeth personify the woman I hope to be when I am of similar age. Not only because they are gorgeous women who have defied the years physically though. Their healthy eating choices, chronic exercise habits, and joyous perspectives on life offer proof that with decent effort one can earn a long, productive, enjoyable life.
