ABC "Wipeout" Host - Once Flabby, Now Fit

Curious to know how celebrities squeeze fitness into their daily lives? Our fitness expert Fitz sits down with the stars and digs out their great and not-so-great methods for staying healthy.

jill wagner

Jill Wagner is the bombshell host of ABC's ludicrous obstacle course game show "Wipeout." We recently spoke, and she openly revealed how she'd fare on the course and why working out is a requirement of her job.

Fitz: The "Wipeout" obstacle courses are insane. In your opinion, do they require great strength and balance or just luck?

Jill: Well, if you look at some of our contestants ... I wouldn't say that some of them are the most athletic. I think that a lot has to do with balance and luck, though, because I've seen the most athletic people not even make it through the qualifier. Balance is probably the most important factor.

Fitz: Do you think weighing more could be an advantage?

Jill: I think weighing less is definitely a bigger benefit. The smaller people get across those big balls easier; maybe it's because they don't make such a great impact as they cross them. You know what happens to the bigger people (she laughs)!

Fitz: Have you ever done one of the courses?

Curious to know how celebrities squeeze fitness into their daily lives? Our fitness expert Fitz sits down with the stars and digs out their great and not-so-great methods for staying healthy.

caitlin van zandt

Weighing more than 200 pounds at 5'8," "Guiding Light" actress Caitlin Van Zandt was sick of awkward wardrobe experiences, frustrated by her losing battle with diets and frightened about her pre-diabetic diagnosis. Under the guidance of her physician, she chose to undergo LAP-band surgery. Here, the 23-year-old talks about her enormous weight loss, the exciting life changes she's experienced because of it and why she feels this option is far superior to gastric bypass surgery.

Fitz: What drove you to surgery instead of exercise and good eating habits for weight loss?

Caitlin: You know, I'd been overweight since I was 10 years old and believe me, I have tried every method of weight loss around. Even though I knew how to eat right and exercise, I just couldn't control what I was eating. I was aware that I was eating bad things, but I just couldn't stop myself. I was an emotional eater. I also avoided the doctor because, rightfully so, he'd always give me a hard time. Last year, when I went in for my physical, he told me my cholesterol was sky high, and I was prediabetic. He offered up one more diet before he would put me on the drug Lipitor for high cholesterol. I was 22 years old, and I did not want to be on cholesterol medicine. When that last diet didn't work, we decided LAP-band surgery would be my best option. Trust me, I never thought I'd be one of those weight loss surgery people!

Check out Caitlin's transformation in the gallery below. Post continues after gallery.

Caitlin Van Zandt Wins at Weight Loss

People told Caitlin she was too young for LAP-band surgery, but doing what young people do to lose weight wasn't working for her, and she wanted to nip her weight problem in the bud while she was still young. Surgery helped her lose 92 pounds, and she'd like to lose 8 more for a grand total of 100.

    John Paschal/jpistudios.com

Caitlin says the point is not to be super human and never eat food -- she eats small meals and just a few bites of dessert. Since surgery, Caitlin's asthma is gone, her cholesterol levels are normal, and her BMI is in a healthy range. Her mother, who also had LAP-band surgery, has lost 80 pounds, and her overall health has improved dramatically too.

    John Paschal/jpistudios.com

Caitlin says she has reinvented her attitude and has learned to respect herself. She's also enjoying shopping and real-life romantic scenes a whole lot more!

"Survivor" Host Works Out in the Wild

Curious to know how celebrities squeeze fitness into their daily lives? Our fitness expert Fitz sits down with the stars and digs out their great and not-so-great methods for staying healthy.

jeff probstJeff Probst is best known as host of CBS's long-running hit show "Survivor," but he should also be known for his amazing body and fitness routine. Think you have no time to look like him? Think you have no access to fitness equipment? Jeff offers great advice on how to pull off quick and effective workouts, even if you're stuck in some freaky part of the world.

Fitz: You seem to be more fit now than you were when "Survivor" began. What have you been doing?

Jeff: I think I have put on a bit more muscle, but it could also be that my shirts fit better! I have bulked up a bit in the past couple of years; I'm just trying to stay ahead of the toll that aging takes on the body. It's hard to stay fit while on location, though, because I don't have the same routine. I've also found that to stay in shape, it doesn't necessarily matter what you eat, but when you eat. Eating frequently teaches your body that food is on its way, so it doesn't have to store extra calories as fat. I eat about six small meals a day. They are more like snack-size portions than meals. I'm not necessarily in love with eating, so I truly treat food as fuel.

Fitz: Have you ever really blown it while on location and came back in worse shape?

Jeff: Oddly, my fitness level never suffers while shooting "Survivor." But I recently spent a few months traveling domestically, and my diet was really different. It was the first time I noticed a change in my body that I didn't like, so I quickly got back on the track with eating to manage my metabolism.

Jeff Probst

Jeff Probst doesn't just survive on location -- he thrives! He always brings fitness equipment with him while shooting "Survivor," and in unusually hot climates, which tend to be an energy-drain, Jeff does a 20-minute intense workout each day. An hour would be too long.

Monty Brinton/CBS ©2008 CBS Broadcasting Inc. All Rights Reserved.

Jeff works his back, shoulders and triceps with a One Arm Clean and Jerk using a Kettleball. Step 1: Jeff Squats with the ball close to the ground while keeping his back flat.

Monty Brinton/CBS ©2008 CBS Broadcasting Inc. All Rights Reserved.

Step 2: Jeff simultaneously curls the Kettleball towards his shoulder and rises up using his legs.

Monty Brinton/CBS ©2008 CBS Broadcasting Inc. All Rights Reserved.

Step 3: Jeff performs a squat again and explosively rises out of it while extending his arm and lifting the Kettleball high into the air.

While on location shooting "Survivor," the art department hangs Jeff's pull-up bar for his daily workouts. A pull-up bar would hang quite nicely from a sturdy tree branch. Have a big tree in your back yard? This might be the perfect way for you to utilize it!

Dara is the perfect example of what exercise can do for you. Here is what the new face of the Got Milk? campaign and author of "Age is Just a Number" has to say about the new book, her body and motherhood.

Fitz: What's your favorite part about being so fit?

Dara: I love the way it makes me feel and how I look.

Fitz: Are you ever critical of your physique?

Dara: Yes, I have my weak parts on my body, but we all have our problem parts. I would like a better rear end!

Fitz: You recently flashed a group of reporters while promoting the Got Milk? campaign. Why?

Curious to know how celebrities squeeze fitness into their daily lives? Our fitness expert Fitz sits down with the stars and digs out their great and not-so-great methods for staying healthy.

marilu henner

Marilu Henner has made the transition from hard partying "Taxi" actor to bestselling author of health and wellness books. The busy Hollywood star, who still finds time to grace the small and large screens (she guest starred on NBC's recent "ER" finale and spent time on "Celebrity Apprentice" last year), divulges what she loves most about herself and talks about her progression from fat to fit -- she shed 54 pounds and has kept it off for 21 years.

Fitz: You've gone from actress to passionate health advocate. Tell me about this evolution.

Marilu: I used to be a terrible Chicago-style eater. I had a diet heavy in all sorts of meat, and I would starve all day to eat half a gallon of ice cream at night. I smoked, I was fat, constipated and had pimples too.

Fitz: That lifestyle is typical of so many people. How did you manage to look like such a hottie on "Taxi."

Marilu: I knew exactly how to work the system. I could lose 20 pounds quickly without even thinking about it. It was crazy, though. When I got my first job, I was told to lose weight. Instead, I gained a bunch.

Fitz: Would your career have been different if you knew then what you know now?

Christina Applegate has grown up before our eyes and has truly evolved into a sophisticated, smart, driven woman who also happens to be one hell of a comedic actress. Her hit show "Samantha Who?" on ABC is in its second season, and Christina has had to split her focus between continuing to deliver hilarity on cue and recuperating from an aggressive battle with breast cancer. She's recovering from a double mastectomy and becoming the fit woman she's accustomed to being. Christina talked about her efforts to stay strong, the diet she can no longer afford and the torture she endures for gorgeous skin.

Fitz: Christina, you look the best I've ever seen. What have you been doing?

Christina: Thanks! I'm finally able to exercise (since my surgery). My recovery has been really long and slow but I've been gradually getting back in to it.

Fitz: What type do you do?

Christina: I've been running, spinning, dancing and taking boot camp classes. I really love to exercise.

Fitz: That doesn't sound very gentle at all! In fact, it sounds like a pretty hard-core workout schedule.

Megan Mullally's Strange Fitness Addiction

Megan Mullally is costarring in ABC's new sitcom "In the Motherhood" airing Thursdays at 8 p.m. and is totally fulfilling the role as a MILF. At 50 years old, she sounds happier in her skin than she's ever been, and you'll be amazed by her response to reaching this milestone. During this interview, Megan revealed her strange workout addiction, the meanest thing anyone has ever said about her body and her fun advice for looking and feeling your best.

megan mullallyFitz: You look great, Megan! What have you been up to?

Megan: I've been doing pilates three to four times a week for about two years now and I love it.

Fitz: Mat or reformer?

Megan: I do it all! I use the Reformer, the Cadillac, the chair and mat. I like a little bit of everything. I remember hearing about pilates over 20 years ago, as it was used to help dancers rehab from injuries. I don't know why I never tried it before now, though. I wish I had.

Fitz: Do you have a great pilates wardrobe?

Megan: I think I looked like an old housewife with a button-down shirt the first time I took a class. I hadn't worked out in over 10 years while I was doing "Will & Grace," so I literally had no gym clothes. Now I have the perfect wardrobe from LuLuLemon.

Fitz: What's the strangest thing you've ever done to stay fit?

Megan Mullally

Megan may scream "yeehaw", but she doesn't shout "whoohoo'!

Megan does lots of pilates now, but she used to be "dysfunctionaly fanatical" about one other exercise.

Megan and her husband picked up some pretty nasty habits when they first got together.

    Getty Images

Adding red to her hair for her role on Broadway in Young Frankenstein made her feel more fun and encouraged her to wear more fun colors!

    Getty Images

By the look of her, you'd never know Megan Mullally took a ten year hiatus from working out!

    Getty Images

Megan just turned 50, but instead of feeling older she says she's feeling "cuter"! She's absolutely right too!

While working on "Will and Grace", Megan was told to lose weight. Her response was spectacular!

Does this look like a MILF to you? Megan hopes you'll say yes!

This week I interviewed an American Gold Medalist and the most famous naked man of 2008. Shawn Johnson and Gilles Marini are two of the strongest competitors on ABC's hit show "Dancing with the Stars," and they have two of the best bodies as well. We all know Shawn's a fierce athlete and Gilles ... well, we all know that he looks spectacular in the buff.

Gilles made us drool as Samantha's sexy neighbor in the "Sex and the City" movie, and he reveals to us his secret to staying outrageously lean and muscular. Shawn divulged what shocked her about ballroom dancing and whether or not she expects to bring home that disco ball trophy. If nothing else has inspired you to become more fit, these two sure will!

Hottest Celeb Guys

    By Mary Kearl

    12: Kevin Eubanks

Kevin Eubanks has made his name as a jazz musician as the leader of Jay Leno's Tonight Show's band. Now he has gained recognition for his healthy vegetarian lifestyle by being voted PETA's World's Sexiest Vegetarian man in 2007. Eubanks' reason for choosing this lifestyle? "Every night before the show, I make sure [my] guitar is perfectly tuned," he has said. "And every day, I do the same for my body -- with healthy, vegetarian meals. It's the easiest way to stay fit and feel great."

    7: Matt Damon

This cutie has been known to do some crazy yo-yo dieting for movie roles. But we love Matt Damon for bulking up for his lead role in 'The Bourne Identity' series -- becoming Jason Bourne required months of training in kickboxing, martial arts, and weaponry. Director Paul Greengrass has called Damon an "amazing sportsman" -- and we couldn't agree more.

    6: David Beckham

You know the accolades -- two-time finalist for FIFA World Player of the year, one of the highest paid "football" players, Posh Spice's man-candy, object of lust of every other female. AOL Body loves David Beckham because he's supportive of his wife's fitness goals -- and 'cause he's willing to push himself to that next level of fitness. We hear he does running sessions on sand -- on top of his regular workouts -- yikes!

    4: Brad Pitt

Brad Pitt has a slew of workouts and websites dedicated to honoring his celeb fitness status: BradPittWorkout.com, Brad Pitt's "Troy Workout," and "How to Be Ripped Like Brad Pitt (Tyler Durden) From Fight Club in 12 Weeks Or Less." Each includes a mix of aerobic intensity and strength training, targeting back, arms, shoulders, and naturally, ab muscles. These days, however, Pitt has put his celeb life on pause for the concern of others' health, donating a reported $1 million to Doctors Without Borders, which Pitt has said was good for his health too. "It's personally rewarding when you see lives change because of an action you take that, though simple for you, means so much to others. You sleep peacefully at night."

    3: Matthew McConaughey

Matthew McConaughey is the hottest poster boy for outdoor fitness we know. Whether running, biking, hiking, or swimming, he always seems to be workin' it outdoors (how else could we see so many shirtless paparazzi pics?). But lately we hear he's taken up an even rougher and tougher workout -- stand up paddle surfing -- a variation of surfing that gives his whole body a workout. Hey, whatever he's doing, he can keep on doing it.

    1: Will Smith

We've always loved this Bad Boy's legendary abs and toned arms. True to form, Will Smith has written song lyrics that explain his mantra for fitness and life: "The key to life is on a treadmill." Or, as he told 'Reader's Digest,' "When I say I am going to run three miles, I run five. With that mentality, it is actually difficult to lose."?We couldn't have said it better.

Big Adventures & Big Waistlines - Good Morning America Anchors Tell All

Curious to know how celebrities squeeze fitness into their daily lives? Our fitness expert Fiz sits down with the stars and digs out their great and not-so-great methods for staying healthy.

Next week, the "Good Morning America" anchors are going BIG! They're secretly traveling to some of the most astounding places on the planet and each day they'll turn up to surprise us with their BIG secret locations. Something else is getting BIG though, and it's far less exciting. Adorable (yet highly-esteemed) anchors, Chris Cuomo and Sam Champion sat down for a hilarious interview with me, to investigate the dramatic state of their self-proclaimed expanding waistlines and an odd tenderness creeping up Chris's right side. Chris even shared fitness advice for one "Today Show" anchor. You won't believe it, unless you read it.

Fitz: What are your favorite forms of fitness?

Chris: I get a workout making fun of Sam. It burns lots of calories and is good for the soul.

Sam: I actually would be happy with any form of fitness. Since coming to GMA, my hours have been erratic and my schedule so tight, I've gained a bunch of weight.

Fitz: You're about to embark on a very BIG trip. Will you exercise while you're traveling?

Chris: We try to use the hotel gyms for cardio and calisthenics if they're available to us, but often we're just dropped in the middle of a disaster, and exercise doesn't seem to make it on our list of things to do. While covering hurricanes, tornadoes, war and other wild events, it's difficult to make fitness a priority. We did, however, go on a great train trip a while back; Sam and I would run down the tracks when we had a break. That was terrific.

Sam: It's all very much a roller coaster. I need to get back on track though and schedule exercise and proper nutrition in to my life wherever I go.

Fitz: Which of you can do more push-ups?

Curious to know how celebrities squeeze fitness into their daily lives? Our fitness expert Fiz sits down with the stars and digs out their great and not-so-great methods for staying healthy.

This season's "Bachelor" Jason Mesnick is finally coming down to his most dramatic rose ceremony ever! Although that whole "dramatic rose ceremony thing" makes me giggle, Jason's body does not. In fact, he's been showing off that six-pack of his quite a bit since the show began a couple of months ago. In this satellite video interview, Jason dishes on how he stays sexy for shower scenes and what measures he takes to keep his teeny son Ty healthy too. Jason also answers the question about which girls were kept around just because of their looks.

"The Bachelor" finale airs this Monday night, March 2nd on ABC at 8/7c. I'm sure no matter how much drama the show contains, there is bound to be a few shirtless shots of Jason. I'll tune in for that!

Fitz: You're playing the title character in a ABC's new prime-time show "Better Off Ted" which debuts Wednesday, March 18th at 8:30PM That must come with an insane amount of pressure.

Jay: It's exciting! But I'm not nervous, because the show is based on a fantastic ensemble cast. I don't do more than anyone else.

Fitz: You also star in "Private Practice." How do you handle both shows?

Jay: We've had a ton of time to shoot "Better Off Ted," so on that end the shooting schedule has been incredibly relaxed.

Fitz: Do you feel pressure as a leading man to stay in shape?

Two-time Dancing with the Stars Champion Cheryl Burke has had quite a year. Five tiny pounds on her little dancer's body caused tabloid hysteria, and now she's starring in her own series of workout DVDs called Disco Abs. She came clean with me on the inspiration behind this belly blasting workout, her infamous weight gain, and who she'd love to partner up with on DWTS. She even shares expert advice on dancing in stilettos; definitely read it before you try it.

Fitz: Tell me about Disco Abs.

Cheryl: It's a series of three workout DVD's set to disco music. The workouts are based on a bunch of fun dance moves, and that's what I love most about them. They're so much fun that you forget you're working really hard.

Fitz: Fun is vital to people sticking with it. And what component is directly geared towards abdominal training?

eric stoltzEric Stoltz has one of those careers any actor would kill for. Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Mask, Pulp Fiction ... the list goes on and on. He's currently on a tear, directing all sorts of hit primetime shows too, but this week we sat down to chat about his guest role on ABC's Grey's Anatomy. My opinion: Eric is really smart, relaxed and funny. He also happens to know the secret to losing weight -- you might be surprised by how simple it actually is!

Fitz: You're playing a serial killer on Death Row for a couple of weeks on ABC's Grey's Anatomy. Any similarities between you and your character?

Eric: Fortunately, no. But it did get me interested in reading and learning more about serial killers. Although repellent, they're often very brilliant, bold and fearless people. Evil characters like that offer me a great opportunity to be creative.

Fitz: Does that mean you're really a super nice guy?

Eric Stoltz - The Actor Chooses His Last Meal on Death Row

Actor Eric Stoltz and I just had one of the most interesting and funniest conversations I've had in a long time. He's presently guest starring on ABC's hit show Grey's Anatomy as a Death Row serial killer. Charming. While interviewing my guests for Celebrity Fitzness Report, we always talk fitness, but we also talk about the projects each celebrity is working on at the moment.

So first Eric and I talk fitness. Eric is a guy who works out not because he's desperate to get big, he just really wants to be healthy and fit. He makes a habit of doing cardio and strength training on alternating days. Great! He's also a vegetarian who loves a healthy meal of pasta with eggplant and mushrooms.

Now to the serial killer/last meal part. I asked Eric what his favorite not-so-healthy food is, and he told me he loves pizza. So, going back to his role on Grey's Anatomy, I asked him if pizza is what he'd choose for his last meal.
