Reasons to Love Summer Workouts

The holiday weekend may be a great excuse to indulge in grilled meat and ice cream, but my favorite thing about the Fourth of July is that it signifies summer is in full swing. And there are way better ways to celebrate than just treats – your fitness routine can get a huge boost from the heat wave. Looking to get motivated? Here are the reasons we love summer workouts:

More daylight: While squeezing in an after-work sweat session can be tough if you're leaving work and it's already dark out, these longer days make me feel more energized and like I have more time to myself. Whether that inspires me to go for a quick sunset jog or just helps me steer myself to the gym after work, it's a good thing.

Summer music: The best jams of the summer are trickling in, and they will energize any workout playlist. Some of the best so far? Lady Gaga's "Edge of Glory," Beyoncé's "Run the World (Girls)" and Katy Perry's "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)." Crank up the volume and see the results!

Everyone's outside: Half the battle is just getting outdoors, and if I'm already there, I find it's much easier to find an excuse to get active. Whether you finally decide to join that company softball team or try my method (squeezing in a few laps in between sunbathing sessions), once you're in the sunlight you'll be happy to find a way to sneak in some exercise.

Extra motivation: It may not be fair, but swimsuit season tends to be the best inspiration to include fitness in my daily routine. That extra confidence boost is so worth it!

The rewards: Nothing feels better after a good long run than being able to dive right into a pool or crash into a sprinkler. Try it this weekend -- you'll thank me!
