Levi's Ride4Water
In March 2010, at the age of 22, she became the youngest person to complete a solo rowing trip across the Atlantic Ocean -- rowing by herself from Senegal to Guyana. She also was the first person to swim the entirety of the Alleghany River and has run in marathons, competed in a triathalon and cycled from Washington D.C. to Seattle.
"Endurance challenges are really addictive," says Spotz. And not only does she inspire people through her athletic accomplishments, but she also combines these feats with a good cause -- raising awareness and money for clean drinking water. Working alongside the Blue Planet Run Foundation, a non-profit organization that funds global safe drinking water projects, Spotz and fellow adventurer Sam Williams will embark tomorrow on a 3,000-mile relay bike race across the country. The race will also raise funding for non-profit FARM-Africa and is sponsored by Levi's.
"The race is actually a third longer than the Tour de France," says Spotz. "And we have to do it in a quarter of the time," chimes in Williams. "From the moment we start, the clock starts ticking and from that moment every second counts." We for one are excited to watch the journey unfold.
"Because I've been able to raise money for clean drinking water, it's taken something that's kind of a selfish journey and taken it to a whole other level," Spotz reflects. Below, watch the full profiling of the upcoming Race4Water.
