Depending on where you live, it's a fair bet that you're either happy to see spring, or you're really, really happy to see spring. And while the later sunsets and blooming flowers make outdoor workouts infinitely more appealing, those April showers and other unpredictable spring weather patterns can put a kink in even the best laid fitness plans.

We've got one word for you -- layers. Staying comfortable in different types of weather requires a smart use of layers, and we've got a few to get you started.

Reebok

Reebok Sport Essentials Tank, $28
Layers start with a base, and a comfortable, functional, but still completely cute little tank like this one will serve you well year round. Wear it under jackets and long-sleeved tees now, and sport it on its own come summer.

Athleta

Athleta Flipside Capri, $44
Available in regular, tall and petite, this pant has a sassy foldover waistband that adds a bit of style, but doesn't sacrifice comfort or flexibility. And the capri length is great for the changing temperatures!

Nike

Nike LIVESTRONG Go Getter Women's Track Jacket, $60
This stylishly retro track jacket will help you get warmed up in no time (and you'll look good doing it). The Dri-FIT material will help you stay dry while you sweat, and since it's machine washable, it's easy to keep it ready for workouts or just wearing out on errands.

lululemon athletica

lululemon athletica Run Swiftly Tech SS, $58
Sure, you could just throw on a regular cotton tee, but if you want gear that's as serious about fitness as you are, this sweet top is just for you. Even though it fits like a favorite tee, it's seam-free (so there's no chafing) and has mesh venting in the areas where you sweat the most.

Under Armour

Under Armour Women's Ultimate Rain Jacket, $99.99
It's raining, it's pouring ... and you still have three miles left on your morning run. This jacket is lightweight and flexible, but is as waterproof as it gets with fully sealed seams and a full zip front to keep the water out.
