Kelly Osbourne's Weight Loss: Physical or Mental Makeover?

Posted on Nov 24th 2010 10:00AM by Hilary Walke

Kelly Osbourne blames her three sessions in rehab on the hurtful, negative comments about her weight from the media.

Appearing on the cover of "Shape's" December issue in a bikini at a new and improved 112 pounds, Osbourne told "Shape," "I was called fat and ugly in the press almost my entire life... I understand that being judged by others comes with the territory, but it broke my heart and ruined my self esteem."

Admitting that she hated herself, she says it was these comments that caused her to turn to Vicodin and subsequently check into rehab three times. She replaced drugs with food, which only caused her to gain more weight.

Osbourne's new body is fabulous for her image and self esteem, but is it really her physical health that she transformed, or her mental health? Find out what our users would tell Kelly in order to prevent her negative spiral from happening again.

I would tell her to stay out of the limelight if she doesn't want to be scrutinized.

I'd tell her she is responsible and controls her life and choices. She needs to stop making excuses for her lack of self control. She needs to love herself enough to not want to harm herself and only want what's best for her. It's about loving and respecting yourself.

I'd say, "Kelly, you turned over responsibility for your health and emotional well-being to drugs. It's never someone else's fault that you pick up the crack pipe, or ingest the ecstasy, or light up a blunt, or eat emotionally. No one else puts that food in your mouth. That said, I'm glad that you're strong enough today to turn off the voices of the media, as wrong-headed as all that crap is about what is beautiful, and what isn't. Keep pouring your energy into yourself and work that has meaning. Keep finding a way to turn off those raven media voices and those in your own head. Choose to not be a victim!"

Hmmmm I can see how they hurt her, but I think the fact that she has a dad and a brother who are also addicts added fuel to the fire. Their show used to be funny until I thought about it... Ozzy is the proto type for a burnt out drug addled person. She looks great, hopefully feels great psychologically too. You have to be strong if you want to be in the limelight. I am big too but I can't imagine having to be inundated with that wherever I go. I hope her bro is doing better too.

She's obviously come out stronger on the other side! She's more physically and mentally fit. So I take from her -- sometimes others' negativity can be turned into something positive for you in your life; even if it took pain to get there. Go Kelly!!

112lbs?? Wow that is very " light" and who cares... so she joins anorexic Hollywood.

Crystal A.
D#"! Kelly, if they call you fat and ugly, so what? Drugs is not the answer. Let's be logical. Liposuction and other thinning techniques are popular now, exercise, hire a personal fitness guru, get a total gym. Plastic surgery has become the norm, get a makeover, airbrush makeup. There are so many things you can do to address the fat and ugly remarks and I`m sure you have the finances to do so. Unless you just want to use drugs and are making excuses for doing so.

It's easier to lose weight than a bad attitude.

My girlfriend dumped me because of my weight. I went into a deep depression, I never did drugs but I was an emotional eater. That's worse than drugs. But I overcame it by living a healthy lifestyle and exercising, I have dropped 25 pounds now.

So happy that Ms. Osbourne has triumphed and is obviously very happy. She deserves lots of kudos!!!
