Would You Try the Twinkie Diet?

If you spent 10 weeks eating Twinkies, Nutty Bars, Oreos and sugary cereals, do you think you would lose 27 pounds?

Marc HaubKansas State University

Recently, professor Mark Haub, a Kansas State University professor of human nutrition, did just that. Sticking to what he called a "convenient store diet," Haub lost 27 pounds and improved his cholesterol by eating sugary, processed foods. While on the diet, he ate every three hours but kept his total calorie consumption less than 1,800 calories. Once he added meat back into his diet, his cholesterol level increased.

Haub did not claim the diet was realistic; rather he was trying to show that calorie restriction, no matter what type of food, will most likely result in weight loss. Find out what our readers had to say in response to this controversial health story.

Of course he lost weight! I have been trying to explain this basic math to my friends - calories in vs. calories out. Does not matter what you eat, it's all about the calories for weight loss!

This is so stupid. I'm sure millions have lost weight on WW eating crap like this. How about Jenny Craig? Isn't that all just pre-packed crap too? Not sure why this is getting so much attention.

Angela C.
Ridiculous.
