She has teamed up with Mark Mastrov, founder of 24-Hour Fitness clubs, and her business partner Guy Oseary to create the workout centers. Called Hard Candy, after her 2008 studio album, the first will open November 29 in Mexico City, with others coming soon to Russia, Brazil, Argentina, Europe and Asia.
It promises 30,000 square feet of "fitness, fashion and entertainment." The fitness center will also include a bike studio, classes in the Brazilian workout Capoeira, and "the newest trends in yoga."
"Hard Candy Fitness will be a reflection of Madonna's point of view and will reflect her input on every detail including music space, light and other design cues. Madonna's touch will be everywhere," Mastrov said in a statement.
Sounds intriguing, but...Mexico City? It turns out that Madonna's huge fan base in Mexico often gets first crack at the singer. She released the album "Hard Candy" in Mexico on April 18, 2008, compared to the U.S.'s debut on April 29th, 2008. And while the record sold enough copies to be certified gold in the U.S., it went platinum in Mexico. Madonna just seems to be following her fans.
It also appears that she has a personal affection the city; she and A-Rod allegedly vacationed there together back in 2008.
If you dream is a workout with Madonna, you'll have to get yourself down there in November: Madge herself will be at the flagship location for the grand opening.
