Today on
The Dr. Oz Show, Dr. Mehmet Oz will introduce America to a new word in the fight against fat: Obesogens. These chemicals are hidden in even the healthiest of foods, like fruits and vegetables, in the form of pesticides. "Obesogens, which are also known as endocrine disruptors, essentially hijack the regulatory system that controls your weight and promotes obesity by increasing fat cells, decreasing metabolism and altering the brain's ability to manage feelings of hunger," Dr. Oz tells That's Fit exclusively. "Hardest hit are our kids, so one of the main objectives of the Tuesday's obesogens segment is to convey a basic understanding of what these obesity inducing chemicals are, how they enter our systems and the simple steps we can take to avoid them."
In the video below, Dr. Oz demonstrates how these endocrine disruptors are broken down in the liver and force fat cells to multiply. For more on how to protect yourself, watch today's episode (check local listings).
