On Monday, Dr. Mehmet Oz debuted his "Just 10 Pounds" weight loss challenge. Why is America's favorite doctor asking for only 10 pounds when many of us have far more to shed in order to be considered healthy? Well, Dr. Oz stresses that even losing 10 pounds can make a huge difference in your health.

"The benefits of losing just 10 pounds are enormous for your heart, liver, knees, pancreas and blood pressure. The incidence of heart disease, diabetes and arthritis can be cut in half," Dr. Oz told That's Fit.

Another reason to start your diet journey off small: Beginning with a goal of just 10 pounds is manageable and doesn't seem insurmountable for most people.

On the show, Dr. Oz and his team, including interventionist Brad Lamm, trainer Gunnar Peterson and nutritionist Dr. Ro, provided five commandments for losing 10 pounds, designed to keep you motivated and help you lose the weight.

You can sign up for the challenge online at doctoroz.com and track your progress. Dr. Oz will be following up with participants throughout the season, as well as continually providing tips so you can be successful.

"I want season two of the Dr. Oz Show to be the season when you did more than watch, I want it to be the season you lost Just 10 pounds," he said.
