The KFC Double Down was bad enough. The Friendly's Burgermelt was even worse. Now there's another fast food chain laughing in the face of the obesity epidemic by rolling out an oh-my-lord-can-you-believe-how-many-calories-that-has type of sandwich. The Burger King Pizza Burger is set to launch in Manhattan next month, and it's already receiving mixed reviews.

Served on a nine-inch bun, the Pizza Burger consists of four Whopper patties topped with pepperoni, marinara sauce, cheese and Tuscan pesto sauce. In all, it has 2,520 calories and 144 grams of fat. Of course, it would be totally crazy to eat all of that at once; that's why they've cut it into six slices, each with 420 calories and 24 grams of fat.

The pizza-flavored burger will be available in September for $12.99 -- but only at Burger King's Times Square 24-hour Whopper Bar. If it's a hit, it could spread to other locations, but so far it's not looking good. "It succeeds in the semiotic suggestion of a pizza, but it doesn't really taste like a burger and certainly tastes not a lick like a Whopper, a strange failure for the piece de resistance of a Whopper Bar," Joshua David Stein of Eater, who was given a sample, said of the Pizza Burger.

"The Pizza Burger tastes like cheese and bread and oregano. I tasted no pepperoni nor any pesto nor, really, any meat," he added.

In the race to develop the fattiest, most unhealthy sandwich out there, it seems this one is currently in the lead -- heck, the Burgermelt, which contains a mere 1,500 calories, is practically diet food compared to the Pizza Burger. Denny's isn't far behind either. It just released the Fried Cheese Melt nationwide this week.
