U.S. Drinking Rate on the Rise: This Week on AOL Health

Despite being nothing but empty calories, alcohol intake among Americans is on the rise, with 67 percent of U.S. adults saying they drink.

The statistics from a recent Gallop poll show that the current rate is the highest it's been since 1985 and compares to an all-time high in the late 1970s.

Too much drinking is dangerous for many reasons, however, many studies have linked moderate drinking to health benefits, like lowering the risk for heart attack and stroke.
