Scientists and health experts often debate the advantages of taking fish oil supplements, from how they affect the brains of the elderly to the evidence for if they lower blood pressure. While many studies have shown omega-3s numerous heart health benefits, researchers are still skeptical of fish oil's potential to fight depression.

But a recent study, published in the Journal of Clinical Psychiatry, may have brought researchers one step closer to finding the link between these omega-3-rich capsules and beating the blues.

The study focused on patients diagnosed with at least moderate depression and found that those who did not also have an anxiety disorder reported a decrease in their depression symptoms.

For more details on the study results and what experts had to say about it, check out AOL Health.
