Megan Fox Says She Could 'Survive a Week Without Eating'

For as long as she's been in the limelight, actress and "Transformers" star Megan Fox, 24, has always had an odd -- and somewhat shocking -- relationship with food. While most Hollywood actresses are desperately trying to battle weight gain, Fox has actually been told to gain weight for her movie roles -- specifically, 10 pounds for "Transformers II" back in 2008.

To pack on these pounds, Fox was eating red velvet cake every night before bed and hardly working out to gain weight for her role. At the same time she was also the svelte celeb at the top of people's celebrity-inspired plastic surgery wish lists.

She's also been known to use vinegar cleanses to detox, according to the Herald Sun. "I'm not one for dieting or exercising, because I'm lazy and I have a really big sweet tooth," she said, "so I have to do cleanses every once in a while 'cause of the amount of sugar I take in."

Knowing that the celeb is eating cake one minute and detoxing the next, we thought it was shocking when, according to a recent Us Weekly story, Fox said in Allure's June issue (on stands May 25) that she would "starve to death before I'll cook for myself. I think I could survive a week without eating."

OK, so maybe some of us don't cook -- but starve to death? Even those of us who are completely un-domestic can open a can of soup or microwave a meal. While fad diets are still common among the celebrity crowd, Fox was already doing her body a disservice by eating sweets, detoxing and not exercising. Intimating that she thinks she could survive a week without eating is an extreme -- and unhealthy -- way to think about food.

"The fact that she (or we) could survive a week without eating doesn't mean it's a good idea," said That's Fit expert, nutritionist and weight loss coach Jonny Bowden. "I might also survive running through a dynamite factory with a lighted match -- even though I survived it, I'd still be an idiot. Clearly, this is a girl with a lot of eating issues and no particular knowledge of nutrition and health; her only credential seems to be the fact that she is skinny. And that said, it's easy to say, 'I could go a week without eating' -- quite another thing to actually do it during a full work schedule. She also doesn't mention how she might accomplish this (appetite suppressants, drugs, etcetera). Responsible fasting done under medical supervision at a relaxing spiritual retreat is not the same as starvation diets with the goal of being able to lose ten pounds by Friday."

Is it just another way for this actress to shock the masses, or is this really her dieting technique? Tell us what you think.
