Good news for Alexander -- he has already reached his goal. After 18 weeks, he's dropped 30 pounds, going from 198 pounds to 165 pounds with Jenny Craig. That's Fit attended an exclusive press conference where Alexander discussed his battle with weight and how the program helped him adopt a healthier lifestyle.
"I was not entirely confident when I began this thing," he said. "Putting the weight on was easy, and I thought it would be hard to lose it." Alexander told the group that, like many others trying to shed the pounds, he tried everything from no carbs to no sugar -- even the Master Cleanse diet ("I didn't know my own name after that one," Alexander joked).
The actor's journey is similar to many other dieters because, as he said, "I understand food and nutrition; my mother is a nurse. I know what I am doing wrong every step of the way. What I needed was a cheerleader and therapist for my food issues."
As the Jenny Craig spokesperson mentioned at the beginning of the conference, many men looking for diet options are in the same boat as Alexander, but less likely than females to join weight loss programs. "Most men have concerns about Jenny -- eating just Jenny food," said Alexander, "but that's not the case."
During his travels over the past few months, the actor was concerned about how he was going to stay on the plan. Because most major U.S. cities and some abroad have Jenny Craig centers, Alexander was able to have the food delivered to his hotel. "I could also walk into almost any restaurant and know exactly what I could eat," he said. If in doubt, "I would contract a Jenny Craig consultant, tell them what I had eaten that day, and they would tell me what to do," he said. "There was no more pleading ignorance."
Besides saying that the Jenny food was "really good," Alexander told the group that he never felt hungry on the plan. In fact, in the first few weeks, he said he "couldn't even finish all of the Jenny food." Alexander joked that he was Jenny Craig's best client, since he hasn't found anything that he won't eat and let's them "tell me what the hell I need to eat and I'll eat it."
While the actor has always worked out and used a trainer four to five days a week, "I would huff and puff to jog just one-tenth of a mile," he said. "Now, I run a quarter or half a mile. I've really been able to stretch my cardio ability." In addition to upping his fitness level, losing the extra pounds has also improved his asthma ("it's virtually gone," he said,) and hopes that his cholesterol level -- which was in the mid-200s -- has improved.
"I was 50 when I started this program, but I felt so much older," said Alexander. "Now I feel as though I'm finally sneaking back into my forties." When That's Fit asked Alexander about his favorite foods on the menu, he said that the Triple Chocolate Cheesecake and the Chicken Fettuccine take the cake. The actor said he has even tried out dishes of his own. "The 'Jason Craig' cookbook should be out soon," he jested.
