My yoga teacher has been using this pose for years. It is super hard and totally strengthens your thighs. Sometimes my teacher changes it up by having us rest one elbow on one thigh and reach the other arm to the sky (while holding our legs in this position), then we switch sides. Not only does this tone our legs, but also works our obliques. Another tough addition is holding on to your ankles (with your legs in goddess position). Push back towards your knees using your elbows, but try to keep your chest upright. This increases the stretch in your inner thighs.
