I've always liked fitness DVDs that offer multiple segments -- it lets me feel like I have a little extra control over my workout. And, I'm always excited to follow trainers who have really made a name for themselves. That's certainly the case with Amy Dixon. After all, she's the official spokesperson for Women's Health magazine, fitness expert and creator of Nivea's Goodbye Cellulite Hello Bikini Fitness Challenge, a Master Trainer in both BOSU and Schwinn Cycling and much more. Her latest video, Give Me 10!, offers five 10-minute workouts including cardio, strength (upper and lower body), kettlebell and yoga. That's an eclectic mix, to be sure!
To get the most out of the10-minute workouts, each has to be reasonably difficult. Did the exercises in this video make the cut?
Level of Difficulty
Intermediate, but with opportunity to go harder or easier.
Next Day Soreness
Pretty major, particularly in the thighs (hello, kettlebell segment!)
Who's It For?
Obviously, it's good for anyone who likes the 10-minute segment videos (short attention span = no problem). But the no-frills workouts and production will appeal to those who just like a good, solid workout without anything fancy or distracting. There's such a mix offered that there's something for everybody.
Likes
I like Amy Dixon -- I want to go to her class, then grab coffee with her afterward. She's tough, but encouraging and positive without making you want to hit her with a dumbbell. The video did a great job of showing modifications, so you can start at an almost beginner level and work your way up. I loved the fact that every 10-minute segment didn't end with a cooldown -- she tells you to bring your heart rate down and stretch, but doesn't waste my workout time with a cooldown that I only need if I'm done for the day.
Dislikes
It's unfortunate that you aren't able to program the individual segments to go in the order you want. You can either do all five at once, or choose them one at a time, and it's a bummer to have to stop after each segment and choose the next. I didn't love the music, but it didn't drive me crazy me, either.
Bottom Line
This is a great video, and if you push yourself through each of the moves, you'll work up a sweat before you know it. The moves are easy to master but still challenging, so even a seasoned exercise buff will get a lot out of the DVD.
