Jennifer Hudson: The New Face of Weight Watchers

She's battled baby weight and been called the "big girl" on "American Idol." Now Jennifer Hudson is waging all-out war against the battle of the bulge as the new spokesperson for Weight Watchers. The announcement came earlier today that Hudson would follow in the footsteps of celebs like Sarah Ferguson and Jenny McCarthy as the public face of the popular weight loss program. She's already well into the program, as recent figure-flattering photos of her might suggest. "One of the things I am most excited about in my life right now is that I can finally tell everyone what I have been doing to lose weight," she wrote on her blog. "People are constantly complimenting me on how I look. Really, I've been dying to tell people what my 'secret' is!"
This isn't the last time you'll hear her raving about Weight Watchers -- she'll continue to talk about her progress as she goes along. She's certainly no stranger to talk about her weight, having dished on national TV about her struggles in the past.
So why Weight Watchers? It's all about convenience for Hudson. "It's a lifestyle change, not a diet," the mother of 7-month-old David Daniel Otunga Jr. told "People" magazine. "I can follow the plan no matter where I am, still enjoy my favorite foods and even use the iPhone app to track my points."
It won't be the first time this Oscar winner has gone on a diet. She already trimmed 60 pounds from her figure following her "Dreamgirls" appearance -- a movie she gained over 20 pounds for -- and she did it the hard way: Careful eating and plenty of exercise. In fact, the 28-year-old loves fitness so much, she admitted that she'd like to do it every day and claimed that one of her favorite workouts is running up 23 flights of stairs.
Sure, she seems committed to getting healthy, but is it enough to help her lose the weight and keep it off for good? When you consider that up to 95 percent of people re-gain the weight they've lost, it looks like the odds are certainly not stacked in her favor. But Hudson has accepted that weight loss is a total life overhaul and not just a quick fix, so that certainly bodes well for her. That stair-running habit won't hurt, either.
So will she be the next Kirstie Alley or will she be a Weight Watchers success story? Time will tell.
