Natural Wellness Recalls MasXtreme

Many of us are well aware of the hidden -- and not-so-hidden -- dangers of dietary supplements. And if we've learned anything over the years, it's that most rewarding way to stay healthy is maintaining a healthy diet and exercise regime -- not via a magic pill. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration says Natural Wellness Inc. is voluntarily recalling MasXtreme for fear that it may pose health threats to consumers.MasXtreme, which is sold across the U.S. in blister packs containing one capsule, is touted as a sexual enhancement supplement. It contains "undeclared amounts of Aildenafil, as well as the drug Phentolamine which is an alpha-adrenergic blocker," according to the FDA. The drug aildenafil, the FDA said, is close in structure to Sildenafil -- the active ingredient in Viagra.
For pill-poppers taking other prescription drugs the combination could cause serious health risks. Aildenafil may interact with nitrates found in some prescription drugs -- like those taken for diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol or heart disease -- and may cause blood pressure lowered to dangerous levels. Common side effects of the other drug, Phentolamine, include arrhythmia (abnormal heart rhythm) and tachycardia (rapid heart beat).
Of course, MasXtreme isn't the first supplement to be recalled after a warning by the FDA. Last year, the FDA issued a warning to consumers to immediately stop using some Hydroxycut products because they were associated with serious liver injuries. Hydroxycut recalled 14 of these products. Even more recently, the FDA warned that Meridia, a popular prescription weight-loss drug, increases the risk for heart attack and stroke among certain users.
At That's Fit, we can't stress enough that improving diet and getting enough time on the treadmill are the keys to healthy life. In fact, exercise is one of the best ways to increase your sex life. It's also important to remember that in general, diet supplements are not regulated the same way as drugs by the FDA, and do not undergo the same scrutiny before going on the market. This makes using any kind of diet drug a potential health risk.
If you have any further questions regarding this MasXtreme recall, you can contact Natural Wellness or the FDA.
