After 16 days over slugging it out over the snow and ice of Vancouver, Canada, the 2010 Winter Olympics came to an end yesterday with a huge celebration and a silver medal in Men's Hockey. For those who are counting, that makes it an incredible 37 medals for the United States -- the highest medal count of any of the competing countries. Germany came in second with 30 and home country Canada followed behind with 26. The Canadians were one of the true surprise stories of the games, because despite valiant efforts, Canada's medal success has been a somewhat disappointing in past Olympics. However, this year they incredibly managed to score the most gold medals of any country ever.

Team USA had a decent showing at the events over the weekend. Katherine Reutter took home a silver medal at the women's 1,000m event on Friday night, losing the top spot to Meng Wang of China. And on the men's side, our Speedskating relay dream team of J.R. Celski, Travis Jayner, Jordan Malone and Apolo Ohno brought home the bronze medal in the Men's 5,000m relay.

Saturday gave rise to more speedskating victory, with Brian Hansen, Chad Hedrick, Jonathan Kuck and Trevor Marsicano earning the silver medal for the Men's Team Pursuit event. The men's slalom alpine skiing and parallel giant slalom snowboarding events also took place on Saturday, but Team USA wasn't able to crack the podium.
