Review:
Located in a strip mall, the Gold's Gym in Lorton, Va., appears small from the outside. Once inside, it's clear this gym is no lightweight. The 33,000-square-foot facility is bright, clean and packed with equipment, classes and amenities.
There are 68 pieces of cardio equipment, including 20 treadmills, 18 ellipticals, 12 recumbent bikes and eight rowing machines. Many machines face a bank of televisions with various programming, which often feature music videos and news shows.
Gym-goers at this Lorton location ranged in levels of physical fitness. A few worked with personal trainers while most preferred to workout alone, either on the machines or in the weight room. Two women used machines located in the women's-only equipment area. This room can be accessed only through the women's locker room.
This facility has three fitness classrooms. The choices on this day were Body Step or Forever Young -- each on opposite ends of the fitness spectrum. Other classes include Pilates, yoga, Latin dance, body combat, body pump, core conditioning, cycling and rowing.
There's even a boot camp class that takes participants outside the gym for running, push-ups and interval training.
Staff at this gym are both helpful and responsive. The mission here, they say, is to learn about a client's individual fitness goals, then help them achieve success.
Check out how to pick the best gym for you.
