hannah teterWith four of the 11 Women's Snowboarding Halfpipe contestants from the USA, we had a pretty good chance at taking home the gold. But in the end, it wasn't meant to be. Snowboarding superstar and 2006 gold medalist Hannah Teter did amazingly well on her first run, scoring a 42.4 out of 50, but it wasn't enough to beat Australia's Torah Bright, who made an awesome comeback from 5.9 on her first run to 45.0 on her second. USA's Kelly Clark came in third with a score of 42.2.

Teter winning gold would have been amazing, and not just for our national pride. The inspirational athlete had vowed to donate all her winnings to charities supporting the victims of Haiti, and had she taken home the top prize, that amount would have been $25,000. She's already raised $161,000 through her own charity, Hannah's Gold, to help support an impoverished village in Kenya.

In Figure Skating, the Men's Free Skating medal competition saw a bit of an upset with favorite Johnny Weir received a lower-then-expected score despite an impressive performance. The ever-stylish Weir graciously received his sixth-place ranking but the crowds at Pacific Coliseum in Vancouver didn't react quite as well -- the announcement was met with much booing.

However, it was still an amazing night for the USA as surprise gold medal winner Evan Lysacek de-throned Russia's reigning king of figure skating, Yevgeny Plushenko. Plushenko, who won the gold in Turin, was expected to take it home again last night but unfortunately for him, Lysacek delivered a flawless, graceful-yet-strong program that easily earned him the top spot. Jeremy Abbott, the other American competitor, pulled in a respectable ninth place, despite a stumble early on in his program.
