Snowboarder Seth Wescott managed to score America's second gold medal yesterday after winning the Men's Snowboard Cross competition, beating out Mike Robertson from Canada and Tony Ramoin from France, as well as fellow qualifying Americans Nate Holland, Graham Watanabe and Nick Baumgartner.

Having won gold in Turin in 2006, Westcott was considered a favorite for the win, but difficult conditions on the already-tough course cause a bit of nail-biting after the Maine native struggled in the qualifying trials. But the downfall of France's Pierre Vaultier is the quarter-finals strengthened his chances. It's a particularly sweet win for Wescott considering a recent injury sidelined him so badly he had difficulty walking. He poignantly celebrated by draping himself in his grandfather's World War II service flag.

In figure skating, Caydee Denney and Jeremy Barrett wowed audiences with a near-perfect performance. After nailing triple lutzes, triple throws and, well, pretty much everything else, they earned a final score of 105.7 -- lower than their personal best but enough to secure them the top spot. Well, for a while, at least.

Shortly after, fellow Americans and first-time Olympians Amanda Evora and Mark Ladwig took to the ice and wowed judges even more with their perfect twists and flawless catches. They earned a score of 114.6 -- their own personal best and a sweet reward after eight years of skating together. The score landed them at the top of the competition but they were soon overthrown. In the end, Chinese husband-and-wife team Shen Xue and Zhao Hongbo made history for China by scoring them their first gold medal in Figure Skating. It was also the first time a non-Russian team had won the top spot in the sport since 1964.

American Bode Miller also added to America's medal count by taking bronze in Men's Downhill Skiing. It's the third medal for Miller, who also took home medals in Turin and Salt Lake City.
