How Fergie Dropped 17 Pounds After "Nine"

While being a Hollywood actress has many perks, there's one downside: You may be asked to lose or gain weight at the drop of a hat.

When the 34-year-old Black Eyed Peas singer Fergie walked the red carpet at this year's Grammy Awards, her fit bod was especially impressive considering she shed the 17 pounds she gained to play a voluptuous prostitute in the movie musical "Nine."

Since the pop princess is a big fan of healthy living, it's no surprise to us that she opted for help from trainer, nutritionist and creator of Diet Designs Carrie Wiatt instead of fad dieting. "Fergie restricts her carb intake at night," Wiatt told "Life & Style" magazine. "That means avoiding carbs at dinner and doubling up on veggies -- and having three small snacks during the day to prevent overeating at mealtimes."

Fergie sticks to a 1,600 calorie-per-day diet, and eats a variety of foods that help her get through rigorous workouts (frequently focusing on her butt). "She usually opts for hunger-blasting ingredients like protein-rich chicken, omega-3-rich pine nuts, fiber-filled grapefruit and healthy fats from avocado," said Wiatt, who includes these ingredients in Fergie's Diet Designs main meals.

Another tactic? Fergie's trainer, Don Brooks of Don-A-Matrix Training, who also works with Fergie's husband, Josh Duhamel, said that he has Fergie tighten and squeeze her glutes while walking at an incline on the treadmill or up a hill, and while doing simple exercises like single-leg hip raises.
