According to the author, there are two types of metabolisms -- Metabolism A and Metabolism B. Dieters with Metabolism A respond well to traditional weight-loss diets, while dieters with Metabolism B, which Kress believes are 45 percent of all dieters, will never succeed on a traditional diet and need to follow a different approach in order to succeed. Readers are asked a series of questions to determine if they may have Metabolism B, such as, "do you crave carbohydrates" and "does your midsection have a roll of fat?" Once they have their answer, dieters are given a three-step program to follow.
The first step is an eight-week program where dieters restrict their intake of carbohydrates (a maximum of 5 grams within every five-hour period) in order to rest your overworked pancreas and liver while shrinking fat cells. The second step adds extra carbohydrates back into the dieter's daily menu and lasts from eight weeks until they've reached their desired weight. The final third step adds even more carbohydrates and is designed to help dieters maintain their current weight.
