Want the skinny on which bathroom scale is the best? Consumer Reports recently tested 11 of the top brands for accuracy and consistency to find out which ones hit the mark and which ones missed.

The test was conducted with 11 volunteers who were weighed at different intervals, with and without a weighted vest. After first being weighed on the lab's calibrated scale, participants hopped on and off the test scales in random order while their readouts were recorded. The Taylor 7506 took the top honors and the Tanita HS-302 was a close second, but they weren't the only winners.

In the end, all of the top four digital scales were extremely accurate, weighing within one pound 97 to 100 percent of the time, while the dial scales showed the most variance.

The bottom line? Stick with the digital scales and don't worry about all the bells and whistles, like body fat measurements, because those have proved to be inconsistent in the past -- and when every pound counts, no one needs that!
