The Biggest Loser: Jillian Sees Red

Week 4 at "The Biggest Loser" was divisive -- contestant camaraderie is waning and the list of resentments is growing. Sheesh, we're only a month in. Season 9 has the makings of the Vicky vs. Phil drama from Season 6. But even with all the personality conflicts, the pounds are melting away. That remains the magic of this show. If you can't lose weight at the ranch, there's no one else to blame but yourself. Read on for farmer-carry kettlebell fun, a cruel crane challenge and who else, besides Jillian, is seeing red.Now It's Time to Run the Mile. In the first pop challenge ever touting immunity, contestants had to run the ranch's Presidential Mile loop around campus to pick up random cards in hopes of landing three green check marks for the win. Unlike the medical emergency heat stroke from last season, it's good to see contestants in better shape before running for immunity. Dr. Huizenga kept his promise to do better. Speed and blind luck were in play as contestants ran mile after mile in search of winning cards. Red won immunity and the reluctant power to distribute three mystery punishments to the crowd. Brown's John was awarded no access to the gym, Red dodged Michael's wrath by handing him a no elimination vote, and Green's Miggy and Migdalia were seething as they earned a two pound disadvantage. Red may be winning challenges, but they're making enemies.
Jillian Sees Red, Gets Fired, Then Re-Hired. It wouldn't be Biggest Loser without a trainer getting fired mid-season. When Jillian reiterated her stance that Red's Melissa had to have thrown the weigh-in last week, husband Lance walked off in a huff. Jillian, however, won't back down from her belief the Red team is manipulating weigh-ins, then lying about it. An overwhelming 78 percent of That's Fit readers agree. Only 8 percent believed the Red team. After the drama dust cleared, Lance and Melissa wisely moved on and followed Jillian's commands.

Biceps for a Phone Call. In a quest for phone calls home, Gray barely beat Red in a bicep-shredding challenge to pull their own weight to the top of a 120-foot crane. In a kind moment, Gray also awarded three teams with a call home -- Red, Green and Brown's John. There may be an alliance developing between Red and Gray-- let's see if they vote together at elimination. Green's phone calls home made them miss family even more. At least Miggy's fiancé reported he's lost nearly 20 pounds.
Don't Miss Trainer Gems

Double up on sandwich meat for a double shot of protein before hitting the gym. Of course, Bob took the crew to Subway for that lesson. Skip all the fat-filled condiments, too. Then run up and down a monster mountain like contestants did and you can order a foot-long. Mountains are a spine-tingling fitness goal -- pick a modest peak you can walk up this summer and start training now for a summit attempt. If You're Not Failing, You're Not Trying Hard Enough. That's a Jillian phrase to stick on the mirror. When's the last time you gave up in sweaty misery on the treadmill? Or ran intervals outdoors to the point of quitting? How about push-ups and sit-ups to physical and mental failure? Contestants went outdoors this week for farmer carries with kettlebells, pass-the-rock-around in a circle, throwing those rocks and kettlebells, then squats/steps with rocks in tow. Although those partner wheelbarrow hill races looked ridiculously dangerous, didn't they? Raise your fitness bar to the point of failure, and then train methodically to surpass it.
Not one contestant reached 4 percent weight loss this week, everyone hung out in the twos and threes. Group criticism toward Michael seems to have produced results, he lost 15 more pounds and is on track to break the 100 pound record. As Jillian predicted, Red's Melissa lost a hefty 11 pounds. But the bummer story was Green's Miggy and Migdalia. Either they simply gave up or stress at the ranch triggered poor weight loss. Perhaps both. They lost less than 1 percent (a ranch rarity), and per her request, Migdalia headed home, even though the Red, Gray and Brown Musketeers tried to send Mom Miggy instead.
Migdalia reports she's a work in progress both physically and emotionally. She gained 10 at home before her husband left for a tour in Afghanistan, but she's back on track and sits at 202 pounds today. Migdalia hopes to run a marathon with her husband someday and her daughter cannot believe how much weight she's lost. Stick to your diet and fitness regimen and your kids will be saying the same. Tune in next week where Blue and Yellow return for a weigh-in and a worrisome call to 911 may send one contestant home.
Medical emergencies on the show make everyone nervous. Don't miss how The Biggest Loser is answering its critics.
