Running and Blogging Helped Krissie Lose Over 50 Lbs

Every week, we introduce you to bloggers who share their weight-loss journeys and hefty doses of inspiration with their readers. This week's featured blogger is Krissie from Questions for Dessert. Name: Krissie
Age: 32
Start weight: 237
Current weight: 184
Goal weight: I don't have a long-term goal. My next goal is 174. In 2004, I weighed 175 for one week. I want to be consistently below that. As far as what happens after that, I really don't know. I want to get to a place where I set my goals based on behaviors that I can control and not a scale that doesn't always respond the way I think it should.
My weight loss approach: I am very particular about keeping track of calories in and calories out. I try to take all of the emotion out of my behavior and make it all about math. I want to stay within a specific calorie range and I view this allowance like my checkbook. When I decide if I want to eat something, I evaluate if it's worth "spending" the calories on or if it's worth the time I would need to spend in the gym. I view this lifestyle change as what I'm willing to do to get what I want. I'm not particularly excited about going to work some mornings, but I want to be able to afford what my paycheck brings me. I see working out and eating right the same way. I have to put the work in to get the health and body that I want.
The best part of blogging is: I truly treasure the friends I've made through blogging. When I'm having a moment of weakness or when I want to celebrate, I put it on my blog and I get a response. If I need a quicker response or a fast opinion, I can reach out to the same people on Twitter. Through blogging, I've met people that I now text, email and vacation with. It really is an amazing community. Best comment I've received: Since I've started running, I've gotten so much encouragement through the comments. I think about those people -- often [picturing] their faces or their blog layout -- when I want to stop running and walk for a while.
What's next for my blog: My blog is all about me, not just my weight loss. I wrote for a long time before I was successful at losing weight. I love to cook, take pictures and [write about] my husband. Some things never change. It's in the weight loss light right now, but I'm branching out and trying to compartmentalize my blogging. I am blogging primarily at my long-time home, but I'm also keeping a separate photo food journal and running log. I'm writing a lot about training for a half-marathon (probably two!), so that's my current focus. Wherever I go in life, that's where my blog will follow.
