JWOWW Says She Eats Only 500 Calories A Day, But Who's Counting?

After exceptional reader feedback on our original JWOWW diet story, our editor Ashley Neglia weighs in the eating habits on the Jersey Shore.

MTV's Jersey Shore has been serving up a habitual cocktail of disaster(s) since the show hit the airwaves in December. Now, the latest round of misfires comes from Jenni "JWOWW" Farley, who admits to getting ready for a slammin' night of beating that beat by consuming a mere 500 calories coupled with a side of fertility hormones.

I'm not alone when I say that this dearth of sustenance and surplus of hormones is cause for concern. First of all, an average-sized woman -- breast-size notwithstanding -- needs to consume between 1,500 and 2,000 calories per day to remain a healthy weight. Secondly, pumping one's body chock full of fertility hormones shouldn't be on the agenda unless, say, your hot flashes prevent you from laying in the tanning bed for a full 30 minutes. I'm going to go out on a limb here -- because I have eyes -- and say that Farley's particular shade of Orangina denotes that she doesn't seem to have a problem in that area. Moreover (and this is just a personal aside), it's my belief that each Jersey Shore cast-member should do his or her utmost to prevent procreating at all costs. I shudder to think what a surfeit of estrogen will do for Farley's fertility.

Fear not. Since the season began, Farley has been gracious enough to supplement her extreme diet with plenty of shots(!) and wholesome family dinners. A straight shot of whiskey, vodka and rum contains approximately 100 calories, but that's only the tip of the iceberg. Calories in mixers only add more power to the punch, and you can't forget that sweet nectar of life pumping its way through the veins of every legit guido and guidette at the shore: Jagerbombs! Each serving contains more than 200 calories.

Don't be too quick to judge. Not all of Farley's extra-curricular calories are liquid. After all, what's a half-starved, intoxicated guidette in the mood for after stumbling home from the bar? DeliFresh ham and sausage! While I'm not quite sure if Farley reinforces the effects of The HCG Diet with a dose of low-carb dieting, she's still packing on calories and nitrates into the wee hours of the morning.

Finally, due to the Jersey Shore crowd's shared commitment to wholesome family values, group dinners have become a staple in the house. Just three-ounces of steak (274 calories) and two cups of boiled lobster (300 calories) -- courtesy of The Situation's surf-and-turf night -- is all Farley needs to get ready for the bar. Top it off with two tablespoons of melted butter (200 calories) and Farley is not only on her way to reaching her minimum daily calorie requirement, but she's blasting through her daily fat intake at more than 25 grams.

Farley can shake it on the plywood dance floor with the best of the blow-outs, but she's not battling it out with a measly 500 calories holding her up. Just ask the Jagerbombs.

Farley is not the only celebrity who tends to avoid food to lose weight. Megan Fox follows a vinegar-only diet.
