Dating Site Kicks Off 5,000 "Fatties"

A dating site that calls itself "the largest network of attractive people in the world" has reportedly terminated 5,000 members for packing on the pounds over the holidays.
BeautifulPeople.com, an international social networking and dating site, allows new members to join only if existing members deem them beautiful enough during a 48-hour review period. And apparently, they can vote them out just as quickly.
The ugly truth came out after the holidays when members complained that some of their fellow site-mates had let themselves go. Thousands of members from the U.S., U.K., Canada and other countries then received an email from the company telling them they could register again for the site when their extra chub was gone.
"We responded to complaints by moving the newly chubby members back to the rating stage," Hodge said. "This is the same as having them re-apply." The site also gave users suggestions for boot camps and workout facilities to get themselves back in shape.
While the company admits they are not politically correct, the dating site's founder stands by the superficial standards. "As a business, we mourn the loss of any member, but the fact remains that our members demand the high standard of beauty be upheld," Robert Hintze told BBC News. "Letting fatties roam the site is a direct threat to our business model and the very concept for which BeautifulPeople.com was founded."
As a consolation, though, the company -- which doesn't seem to believe that beauty is in the eye of the beholder -- states that over 1.8 million other unattractive people have already been rejected. It also offers anyone who is "too ugly to sign up" a chance to roam the site as a guest. How thoughtful of them.
