Britney Spears is reportedly a fan of the pepper pillSpicy foods have been shown to kick your metabolism into high gear, but what if your taste buds can't take the heat? The maker of a new weight-loss supplement, called Capsiplex, claim that they've put all the calorie-burning benefits of chili peppers -- minus the spice -- into a pill.

Capsiplex, which promises to burn up to as many calories as a 25-minute jog, contains extracts from pepper plants that may help to reduce appetite and increase metabolism.

With its Web site claiming "you can lose all the weight you want" and burn 278 additional calories before, during and after exercise, it can certainly entice those who want to believe weight loss is just a pill away.

Jennifer Lopez, Brad Pitt and Britney Spears are fans of the cayenne and chili pepper filled pill, according to the UK's Daily Mail.

A spokesman for Capsiplex told the Daily Mail, "For decades, scientists have known about the weight-loss potential of red-hot peppers. The problem has been the ability to consume such a highly concentrated amount, but we have overcome this by putting a protective coating on the ingredients which stops any gastric irritation."

Trials at the University of Oklahoma reportedly showed that Capsiplex can burn as many calories as 80 minutes of walking or a 25-minute jog, but take note that their idea of an 80-minute walk to burn 278 calories was based on a staggeringly slow pace of 30 minutes per mile (the average person walks a mile in 15 to 20 minutes).

Before you breathe a sigh of relief about not having to sweat it out, literally, with these pills, be aware that the long-term effectiveness is still under fire and that they are not approved by the FDA.

Capsiplex isn't the first diet pill to be used by celebrities. Click on the gallery below to see who else has popped pills to drop pounds.

If you think you can take the heat, try adding some cayenne peppers for a spicy dish to ward off a wintertime cold.
