Doing Yoga With Your Partner

Couple Doing Yoga on the Beach

Women may love yoga, but for guys, it may sound about as appealing as learning to knit or reading Danielle Steele. That's because most men aren't aware of one of the best reasons to give it a try. "Doing yoga regularly -- specifically with your partner -- can dramatically recharge your sex life by not just improving your performance, but by improving your relationship as well," says Jacquie Noelle Greaux, author of 'Better Sex Through Yoga.' If your libido could use a boost, here's why yoga is a man's best friend.

It Lets You Be a Longer Lover
Whether you buy into all of yoga's spiritual benefits, it's still a series of highly-effective stretches and body-resistance exercises that loosen up the body while strengthening it at the same time. "This combination of muscle-toning and stretching can have a tremendous effect on a man's sex life," says Greaux. "Being more flexible -- and having more muscular stamina -- can allow a man to not just perform longer in bed, but take advantage of a variety of positions he could be missing out on."

It Gives You More Energy
It's hard to believe something so passive could boost your stamina, but yoga does. "All the movements require that you take deep, controlled breaths as you hold each pose," says Greaux, "This draws more oxygen into your body and raises your energy levels -- energy that you can use elsewhere in the bedroom."

It Stops Performance Issues Before They Start
Because it simultaneously stretches and strengthens your body, if done regularly, yoga can virtually eliminate many of the physical problems that tend to stop sex in its' tracks, such as tight hamstrings, back pain or hypertension. "Yoga poses also require a lot of attention as you do them, which forces you to focus on only the moment -- as well as your partner," says Greaux," This helps men who suffer from stress-related problems clear their mind of any daily distractions that could be interfering with their sex drive."

It Secretly Sets the Mood
If the low lighting and candles -- two things that most yoga masters recommend to help de-stress while doing yoga -- don't help set the tone, doing yoga together allows you to perform partner-assisted poses. "These types of postures require a partner to help the other person get a full stretch or just get into position, says Greaux, "Having to focus on your partner's body, plus all that extra touching, lets you be sexually playful as you exercise together."

It Makes You More Attractive
This may not seem important, but the truth is, "the more thoughtful you are, the more endearing you will seem to her," says Greaux. That's because anytime a man expresses genuine interest in things a woman particularly likes to do -- in this case, yoga -- it instantly impresses and flatters her. "Without realizing it, simply committing time to doing yoga with your partner becomes an opportunity to strengthen your level of intimacy -- something that always adds fire to any sex life," she says.
