Fad diets make you fat -- so know how to spot and avoid them.
Recent studies have shown that instead of helping us slim down, fad diets are actually making the obesity crisis worse -- and the only place we're getting slimmer is in the wallet region. But how do you know if a diet is legit or if it's a fad? There are several signs to look for here, but stick to this general rule of thumb: If it veers very far from the general principle of eating a balanced diet and working out, it's probably a fad. The best diet and exercise plan is the one recommended by your doctor.
