What You Can Eat
Grapefruit or its juice is the mainstay of this diet, requiring that you either eat half a grapefruit or drink eight ounces of unsweetened grapefruit juice before each meal. Coffee and tea are also permitted. According to some plans, most complex carbohydrates are prohibited. Also included in the list of foods to restrict or avoid are bread, carrots, celery, chili, cole slaw, cucumber, green vegetables, hot dogs, mayonnaise, potatoes, salad dressing and tomatoes. Yet you can eat pasta, peanut butter, pretzels, corn, cereal, fruit, starchy vegetables, bell peppers, spinach and red onions.
For instance, along with your grapefruit or juice, breakfast might include two eggs and two slices of bacon followed by a serving of meat and salad for lunch. At dinner, you might have a serving of meat or fish, a salad, and a cup of coffee or tea. Sill hungry? Before bed, you can slurp an eight-ounce glass of skim milk or tomato juice.
