What You Can Eat
During the two-week fat flush diet(phase one), you'll load up on flaxseed oil (other oils are out), eggs, grass-fed meat, poultry, fish, cruciferous vegetables like broccoli, Brussels sprouts and Kale, and a cranberry juice and water concoction. Dairy products, grains, bread, cereal and starchy vegetables like potatoes are banned. And liver stressors like trans fats, caffeine, colas, diet sodas, alcohol, aspartame, sugar, many spices, vinegars, soy sauces and barbeque sauces are also off limits. In phase two, you'll add back one or two "diet-friendly" carbs, including toast made from real bread. Phase three adds dairy and even more friendly carbs to choose from. Calorie intakes start at 1,100 during the first phase and gradually increase to 1,500 in phase three.
For all three phases, Gittleman provides daily meal plans and recipes -- things like Cider Turkey with Mushrooms, Savory Spaghetti Squash and berry smoothies. But during the lifestyle eating plan, you'll also follow certain "fat flushing rules": one protein item per meal (sorry, no surf and turf meals here), no fruits and vegetables together, no meats and milk together and no water with meals.
