Valerie Bertinelli is a total inspiration. She worked hard, lost weight, and looks amazing. And now, she has a fitness DVD -- "Valerie Bertinelli: Losing it and Keeping Fit."

The DVD is divided into three sections: a 20-minute Level 1 workout, a 40-minute Level 2 workout, and then Bonus Features. Both workouts feature Bertinelli with celebrity personal trainer Christopher Ross Lane, who was instrumental in helping the actress sculpt her new body.

Obviously, the workouts worked for Bertinelli. But is this DVD right for you? I tested out both workouts to find out.

Level of Difficulty

Beginner, especially the first workout. Very easy with good modifications.

Next Day Soreness
None, even after doing both workouts and the bonus ab work. Although, I did expect my abs to hurt -- that was a lot of ab work to do in one day!

Who's It For?
This is a good option for people who really haven't been exercising (like Bertinelli before she got fit). Once you've mastered the beginner workout, you can move on to the second level. The bonus section is a good addition to anyone's workout.

Likes
The instruction is good, and the moves are simple and (mostly) easy to follow. The setting is pleasant -- a pretty, indoor room, but not distracting.

Dislikes
Though I've always liked Bertinelli, I found myself a bit annoyed at her constant whining. I appreciate when an instructor is huffing and puffing after a particularly difficult set of moves, but it's just distracting when every move is made to seem harder than it is. Bertinelli is in fabulous shape -- I want to see her powering through these moves and owning them, not complaining about them! On the other hand, Lane is encouraging and straightforward -- very easy to listen to.

Bottom Line
The video is a good option for those who are new to fitness. It wasn't my favorite simply because it wasn't terribly challenging. However, the exercises shown are solid -- nothing groundbreaking, but good moves to incorporate into any fitness routine.
