Sandy, No-Good Treasure. Opening the show with a challenge, teams had to dig deep in the sand to find four keys to unlock the surprise reward. Blue's strength won handily, and tears flowed when they found the reward was a week trip back home. They chose Option 2 -- hand Black the prize, and stay back solo at the ranch with zero distractions. Well, unless Jillian was roaming around.
Home Bittersweet Home. A 24-hour mom, Dina had to take her son to the gym to score her needed calorie burn. The best moment was watching the surprise on his face when mom started sprinting on the treadmill. Amanda felt defeated in a new gym with strange weight machines. Shay felt awkward entering a public gym at her 400-plus weight, and Abby had to drive half an hour to find a gym with a knee-friendly pool.
Danny Was the Smart One. The worst was when Shay and Dina headed out for dinner. Shay looked defeated as her husband ordered Killer Steak Tacos and a cider. Dina's overweight husband stuffed down huge portions. Couldn't they order responsibly for one meal in support of their spouses? Danny chose to grill lean steak kabobs at home instead, as his young, overweight daughter hung out by the grill crunching down raw green peppers. She's soaking in dad's every diet move -- if Danny keeps losing, his daughter will, too.
Scoop Away Those Carbs. Shay met a couple friends at Subway and ordered her foot-long with the inside bread scooped away. Great way to toss out empty carbs. Effective strategy before toasting a bagel, too.
Don't-Miss Trainer Gems
- Bypass the mayonnaise and cheese on your sandwich, says Jillian. Replace by spreading a quarter-cup of ripe avocado instead. Healthy fats, less calories, delicious taste.
- Don't forget circuits, says Bob. Circuit training involves eight to 12 exercises in a row with weights, cardio and no rest. Your body tires fast, and multiple muscle groups are engaged. Bob suggests adding One-Arm Rows, Lateral Raises and Step-Ups (side step onto a weight bench while holding a barbell in each hand at your side). Do three to five circuits, hydrate and rest in between.
Milk Grandma No More. Liz says she's done serving soda to her grandchildren. She's a milk grandmother now. Are you constantly pouring Kool-Aid or soda into a little kid's glass? If so, set the right example and start pouring milk and water more often.
Last Chance Workout left Blue losing 2.65 percent of their total team weight to Black's 1.98 percent. Rudy the weight-loss machine burned off 15 pounds for Blue. Black's Daniel gained a pound -- sheesh, he was measuring his food into plastic storage containers at home. Amazingly, Black's Danny lost 15 pounds, guess those backyard kabobs paid off. In a narrow vote, Dina was sent right back home. She's now a slimmer 188 pounds, her son coaches her at the gym and her fear of the plyo jump box has vanished. Here's the best quote from a Biggest Loser family member ever: "My favorite thing about having a skinnier mom is everything's more exciting than it used to be," shared Dina's son. Don't you love that? Dina went from moving nowhere to completing a half marathon and training for the 26.2-miler. She must look like a superhero to her son. See you next week as Amanda walks out of the gym and players battle in a head-to-head competition at final weigh-in.
Considering Week 6 was all about dieting and family, do you say the D-word around your family?
