Hatha yoga is term that applies to the physical practice of yoga. There are eight different "limbs" of yoga and only one involves physical poses. So when you practice Ashtanga or Kundalini yoga, you are still practicing Hatha yoga. Hatha yoga can essentially be used interchangeably with the word yoga.
If you sign up for a Hatha yoga class, you can expect many seated postures, some stretching and a focus on breathing and meditation. The class tends to be less vigorous than other types of yoga classes, but is a good place for beginners and for those looking for a relaxing, not strenuous, experience.
If you're looking for an intense, physically demanding yoga practice or to use yoga for weight loss, Hatha yoga may not be for you.
