pumpRockr - Skateboard to Work Your Core

Fit at Home Posted on Sep 25th 2009 3:00PM by Kristen Seymour

The pumpRockr isn't your average skateboard. It's a pivot-driven skateboard that requires you to use muscles in your legs and core you might not have known you had, so it's not only fun (and completely cool looking -- just watch the video above), but it's a workout! You pump it like a surfboard, carve like a snowboard, and can still ride at the parks or around town.

I first tried out this board at Orlando's Surf Expo (with very little success -- carpet makes it tough). Then, I tried again at home and showed significant improvement. Keep in mind, I'd never in my life set foot on a skateboard or surfboard, so this was completely foreign to me, and definitely a challenge. There were definitely some falls, so kids -- wear your pads!

Now, if you have any experience with a skateboard, or if you're a fan of the Ripstik, you're going to love the pumpRockr. Kevin Smith, one of the men behind the pumpRockr, is able to ride his pumpRockr for long distances without putting a foot down (although he admits the hills are tough). And skaters who enjoy doing tricks will dig trying them out with this three-wheeled contraption.

What's fun is that this wasn't really created to be a piece of exercise equipment. And, as we all know, working out is a lot more fun when your main focus isn't on burning calories.

The pumpRockr is $99 -- cheaper than a bike or a scooter, and tons of fun. Will you try one? Get more info in the video below.

If you'd rather go with something more along the lines of a scooter, though, maybe the Pumgo will be more your speed.
