Apparently, trail running burns more calories than plain old sidewalk running -- 10 percent more calories to be specific. And because you're running uphill and downhill and everywhere in between, it challenges more muscles than your regular inner-city route does.
Stuck in the city this weekend? Try to find a hilly part or green space and the natural nooks and crannies on a different route.
