Red Bull - How Many Calories?
Categories: How Many Calories?, Diet & Weight Loss
Energy drinks are undeniably the rage. Some swallow liquid energy in the morning, for an afternoon pick-up or at the bars. Pre-teens are slapping down allowance for Monsters when their moms aren't looking. They'd better score cans while they can -- two major retail chains in Sweden just banned the sale of Red Bull and other energy drinks to youth under 15, heeding the advice of school administrators warning of hyperactive, addicted students.
Energy drinks may deliver a controversial zip, but are they also zapping you with major calories? Let's take a look at the little blue and silver special with dueling bulls. How many calories in a can of Red Bull?
Red Bull has 113 calories. With 27.5 grams of sugar, 28.2 grams of carbs and less than 1 gram of protein, it's nearly all sugary carbs. Caffeine totals 76 milligrams, significantly less than a Starbucks grande coffee. But for those Master Your Metabolism fans out there sticking to real, wholesome foods, Red Bull's website reports, "All ingredients for Red Bull Energy Drink are synthetically produced by pharmaceutical companies." Great.
Now a Vodka Red Bull at the club has 177 calories, provided you didn't flirt with the bartender for a longer pour. It'll take a 150-pound clubber about a half hour of intense, aerobic dance moves to burn that off, but a whole lot longer to burn off a pina colada.

I don't care if it had as many calories as a stick of butter, Red Bull has been and always will be AWESOME!

My friends and I drink nothing other than sugar-free Red Bull. Once I accidentally purchased the variety with sugar, and the "rush/fall" effect was horrendous. All my friends agree. Perhaps presenting the full story, including both varieties of Red Bull available in the US, would be more fair. The European varieties of Red Bull do not have the same ingredients as the two that are manufactured for sale in the US; hence, the banning in Sweden is essentially of a different product.
