Margarine and other fake spreads might be cheaper, but butter contains vitamin A, vitamin D, lecithin, vitamin E, selenium, iodine and short and medium chain fatty acids -- all essential for health. Margarine contains hydrogenated oils and trans fats -- and Flora says these are the ingredients we must pitch from our pantries.

I agree with this to. I cut out margarine. A lot of people i know use artificial fats because it is lighter in many instances, but they don't realize that it is also harder for your body to digest. Natural is always better. I will be checking out your blog...you definitely have some good articles!

Fascinating article. The cholesterol and saturated fat discussions were interesting. I think some parts of it were a bit overenthusiastic, but I agree that butter is better than margarine.
While I don't use margarine at all, I also don't keep butter in the house. I tend to prefer the flavor in other ingredients. For example, I prefer that peanut butter with flax seed from Trader Joe's to spread on bread, pureed apples as a recipe substitute, spices and herbs for baked potato or corn on the cob, etc.
