Applebee's Cajun Lime Tilapia - How Many Calories?
Categories: How Many Calories?, Nutrition & Supplements
Cooking at home is your best way to control ingredients, preparation methods and calories. But when summer's heat hits, it's always nice to escape to an air-conditioned restaurant and not spend time in front of the stove. When you're heading out to a restaurant, it's a good idea to take a peek online to see if you can find out the calorie counts of your favorite dishes. Sometimes that's easier said then done, though. Bev told us how Applebee's doesn't share nutrition information for most of their menu items.
They do, however, have a selection of Weight Watchers items and the points values for each. My personal favorite is the Cajun Lime Tilapia -- a good portion of light and flaky fish topped with black bean and corn salsa and rice pilaf and steamed veggies on the side. A great guilt-free dish. Or is it? What do you think?
Guilt be gone! Applebee's Cajun Lime Tilapia meal weighs in at a figure-friendly 310 calories. Want to make it even better? Ask the server if you can skip the rice (wish they served brown rice with the dish, but they don't). In lieu of the rice, ask for a larger serving of vegetables -- more nutrition, and the swap will probably lower the calorie count, too.
Always feel free to ask for changes to your meal when you go out to eat. If the meal you chose comes with some calorie-hefty side dishes, just scour the menu for healthier options. Most restaurants are glad to accommodate you.

Tilapia is a very poor choice of fish as it contains no healthy omega 3 fatty acids but is loaded with omega 6 which contributes to most Americans unhealthy ratio of omega 3 to omega 6 fatty acids. When I discovered this about a year ago I ceased eating tilapia.

Tilapia does contain omega 3 fatty acids, but it's not a great source as it contains more omega 6 fatty acids. I wouldn't wipe it from your diet, though! Here's a great article from nutritionists at Mayo Clinic explaining why: http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/tilapia/MY00167
