Element AM & PM Yoga for Beginners - DVD Review

Devotees of yoga are often divided into two schools -- those who practice for the physical benefit, and those who practice for the spiritual/mental aspect. While I like what yoga does for my body, I definitely fall more into the latter group. Yoga provides a peace of mind that just isn't matched by most other forms of exercise.
Element: Am and PM Yoga for Beginners is right up my alley. It focuses strongly on the mind while giving good instruction on how to move the body.
But, is it the best choice for someone new to yoga? I tried it out and am happy to report my findings!

Next Day Soreness
Very little -- just a bit of tightness in the shoulders.
Who's It For?
As the title says, it's for beginners to yoga. Those who practice often likely will find the moves too easy. However, for someone new to the practice, or anyone who only does yoga on occasion, the moves (especially the AM section) provided plenty of challenges.
Likes
The AM and PM sessions were very different -- the half hour AM is meant to energize, while half hour PM is designed to help you wind down. I really liked having the two options. Additionally, as with the Element: Pilates for Beginners DVD, the setting was beautiful and the instructor didn't speak. Clear, helpful instructions were given via a voiceover.
Dislikes
While I enjoyed the two options, it would be great to have a longer version of each for the days during which I can only do one session. They do have the option of doing them back to back, which would probably serve the purpose. Otherwise, no real dislikes!
Bottom Line
It's a keeper. I've already lent this to a friend -- it's easy to follow, relaxing, but still gets a little sweat going. If you're just getting started with yoga and are looking for the mental as well as the physical benefits, this could be the video for you.
