ABC "Wipeout" Host - Once Flabby, Now Fit

Curious to know how celebrities squeeze fitness into their daily lives? Our fitness expert Fitz sits down with the stars and digs out their great and not-so-great methods for staying healthy.

Jill Wagner is the bombshell host of ABC's ludicrous obstacle course game show "Wipeout." We recently spoke, and she openly revealed how she'd fare on the course and why working out is a requirement of her job.

Fitz: The "Wipeout" obstacle courses are insane. In your opinion, do they require great strength and balance or just luck?

Jill: Well, if you look at some of our contestants ... I wouldn't say that some of them are the most athletic. I think that a lot has to do with balance and luck, though, because I've seen the most athletic people not even make it through the qualifier. Balance is probably the most important factor.

Fitz: Do you think weighing more could be an advantage?

Jill: I think weighing less is definitely a bigger benefit. The smaller people get across those big balls easier; maybe it's because they don't make such a great impact as they cross them. You know what happens to the bigger people (she laughs)!

Fitz: Have you ever done one of the courses?

Jill: I have not, but I like to tell people that I auditioned to be host of the show and not a contestant. A little part of me wants to jump on the big balls, but that's just the 12-year-old in me. If I didn't think I would completely kill myself, maybe I would try it. Maybe I will some day.

Fitz: On a different topic, you look absolutely amazing in a bikini. Have you always been so fit?

Jill: Actually, no! I've never been overweight, but I certainly was not in optimal shape. I didn't eat very healthy. I would literally eat the McDonald's #2 meal twice a day! Up until about four years ago, I only wore one-piece bathing suits, which I actually think can look quite sexy on a woman. But since I've started going to the gym and training with my best friend, who happens to be a trainer, I've moved on to the two pieces. My eating habits are a lot better now as well.

Fitz: What part of your body did you like the least when you were not in shape?

Jill: My stomach. My abs would just accumulate this weird fat that I could never get rid of. Of course, I wasn't really trying that hard anyway!

Fitz: Your abs look pretty flat now. What is your favorite abdominal exercise?

Jill: I actually have these hooks on the top of my door which I hang from (kinda like I'm going to do pull-ups), and I lift my legs straight out in front of me.

Fitz: That's a pike! It's one of my favorites.

Jill: It works, but it hurts like hell!

Fitz: What else do you do for fitness?

Jill: I try to work out every day, because it helps me decompress, and I really enjoy doing it. I normally spend about 45 minutes in the gym; 25 minutes of cardio, and then I use free weights. I never use machines, because I feel like I have to balance free weights more, and it causes me to have that good kind of soreness a couple of days later.

Fitz: What motivates you to get in the gym when you're feeling lazy?

Jill: My job! If you're going to be on TV and the whole world's going to judge you, it's pretty good motivation. It's always nice to feel good on TV and fit in to the clothes they buy you. Oooh! There's also a really hot trainer at my gym who I just love to stare at.

Fitz: What's his name?

Jill: Ha ha! I don't know cause I'm too afraid to go up to him. I stare at him the entire time I'm there, and then I leave. I don't ever want to meet him, because he's so perfectly gorgeous, and I don't want to ruin the fantasy. I just want him to stand there looking hot for my pleasure. I hope he never reads this!

Fitz: So funny! What's the most important thing a bikini girl like you keeps in your beach bag?

Jill: Cetaphil sunblock -- I wear it all the time! My dermatologist recommended it, and I fell in love right away. I also wear it during long days filming "Wipeout" under the blazing sun.

Fitz: Finally, do you have any advice for our readers who are trying to become more fit?

Jill: Back in the day, my greatest obstacle was feeling comfortable in the gym. I think it's very important for people to join a gym, because it has all of the things a person needs to get in to optimal shape. It's also very important to shop around and join a gym you connect with. I actually cut my membership from one of the nicest gyms in LA, because I just didn't feel like I fit in there. Now I'm at a smaller gym, and I just love the vibe. Gyms can be intimidating, so find the right one and you'll be more likely to use it.

    Jill was never overweight, but she confesses to have been pretty "unfit" at one point. She claims a flabby belly was her worst issue. Clearly that's not an issue anymore!

    Jill's favorite abdominal exercise is the pike. She hangs from a pull up bar type device in her door frame and lifts her legs straight up and out in front of her. Jill says "they work, but they hurt like hell!"

    Up until just recently, Jill would only wear one-piece swimsuits. Since taking the advice of her best friend who also happens to be a personal trainer, she's a lot more comfortable in bikinis.
