- Eat either whole grains or products made with 100 percent whole grains.
- Work beans, legumes and lentils into your diet.
- Incorporate plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables. Here's a list of "free" foods, or foods that rank very low on the glycemic index.
- Familiarize yourself with low GI-friendly foods.
- If a high GI food can't be avoided, pair it with a low GI food to keep blood sugar levels down.
